how long can you peak4-ers ride without hands?
been playing in some small swell, on a moses 633. really fun to get hands free and carve around open-arms. any techniques for further hands-free flight? currently about at around 4s i would guess. considering a bigger wing too....

Like other kites it’s got a lot to do with how centred the kite is above you when you let go and how well your lateral speed matches the rate of the kites fall to one side. Peaks will sit at zenith for a good long while sometimes but once they start heading to either side, there gonna keep going like every kite I’ve ever had except Peter Lynn arcs. Maybe not as fast as a tube but that’s due to their light weight.

Their pretty stable but no auto zenith. I’ve put my helmet back on many times while riding and even tied my shoe lace while swimming ( I kite in water sneakers) no hand on the bar. I’d guess they can give a good bit longer than 4 seconds on average.

The bigger, slower ones are likely easier.

Actually has to be a result of greater drag when falling to the side rather than weight. In the absence of air resistance heavier and lighter objects fall at the same rate, or if a heavy and a light object have the same drag, they fall in air at the same rate.

jumptheshark,

What water sneakers are you using?

Do you have any stopper on your bar, or is the kite just flapping?

I think it is center of mass compared to center of lift which causes front heavy tubes to turn down much faster. Foils kites are much more balanced in mass and turning moment is much less due to that. Some might call that "bar pressure" when they state feeling from bar where their kite is, because of turning moment with gravity causing upper wing tip steering line more pressure when negating the turning.

Adidas Terrex, pic is of an old pair(no idea why it’s upside down). Work best with a really flat deck. I haven’t used a stopper for a while and that would probably make a big difference. Have one on a bar I plan on using this season so will try a little hands free drifting.

Going back to a traditional harness line could be a possibility if you understand the risks.....

Can be used with a normal chicken loop connection, and they can incorporate a qr but personally I don’t use harness loop qrs.

Just a thought, not used them myself on hydrofoil but sometimes use them for MTB,skateboard and buggy.

Stopper is likely the simplest aid. Not much load to drifting hands free.

Definitely gonna try it. Ice is out here so it won’t be long now.

Stopper is simpler than a harness line but a harness line can be used to provide different prt v stbd rear line tension. Firstly by using the friction at the hook and twisting your hips and secondly you can slide the attachment points relative to the bar center. On a bug you could probably have lunch this way if you can stay on the same tack! (Plus trimmed appropriately of course,)

I see what your saying and bet your right that it would extend hands off rides.

I'll report back about a stopper.
