Kite quiver for TT and Foil suggestions

Postby Tsachi1 » Wed Apr 07, 2021 1:23 pm

Hello everyone

My kites are getting a little old , and I am thinking about changing the complete set .
Would like to hear inputs from people who foil and TT .
In my area , there are mostly winds for foil .
Around 80-90 percent of my sessions are on the foil due to the conditions and preference , I like to TT from around 16Kt.
On the foil I like to catch waves , learn freestyle tricks, and loop the kite a lot.
On the TT I like to old school , jump high , and a lot of air time.

I'm looking to cover a wind range of 8-25 knots
8 - 15/16 kt foil , then TT.

I currently ride on 3 kites :
12m Airush ultra - Which I use for foiling only
10m , 8m F-one Bandit - which I use for both foiling and twin tip.

I feel like this set up covers the full wind range , but with compromises from both sides foil and tt .

People who TT and foil , please share your set up , and feedback on it.

All you really need is a single kite, 10m Soul.

If foiling is 80+% of your kiting you owe it to yourself to get dedicated kites. Speaking only about free riding:

Peak4 is IMO the best option, followed by strutless and if your lame you can get single strut. 2 kites should do. 6/5 or 5/4 or even 6/4. Those are Peak4 sizes. For tubes....10/7.

Then you need a killer 9m tube. Pivot would be my choice. Can go 9 or 9&7 to cover up to 35 knots.

Boom, done.

I have a Soul 6m and Sonic3 11m and both twintip and foil. That combination is great from 8kts to 30+ with a short 100cm foilboard/633 and 137x41.5 twintip. I weight roughly 185lbs.

Suggest you test out a 10m Ocean Rodeo Aluula Roam, definitely has the range to cover your wind range & board requirements, certainly for foiling, may or may not meet your needs for TT airtime.

I was in a similar predicament, but my percentage is higher on the TT than yours. I wound up with a pretty conventional 7, 9, 12 quiver of 3 strut kites, but here was my thinking.

12m - this is going to be the lighter wind TT kite, probably ~16-22 kts. Probably won't ever use this on the foil. Considered a 13, but not a fan of any 12+ that I've tried.
9m - crossover for lightwind foil (~10-16 kts) and higher wind TT (~20-27 kts)
7m - crossover for foil (13-20 kts) and higher wind TT (27+ kts)

In my opinion, the 7m is the biggest compromise. Ideally I would have a 5 strut 7 or 8m kite for high wind TT, and then a better drifting single or three strut 6 or 7m kite for most of my foiling.

Yes I gree I do owe it to myself :)

Do you think this sizes really cover the range from 8-9 kt?
Or another bigger kite should be added ?
I foil a surf wing with a pocket board . (75kg)

As for strutless , which are the recomnded ones ?
Clouds are a bit hard to get here .
All other brands I can probably buy online .

Peak is also on my mind , I will try to give it a try , see if I like the feeling of it . I have never filed a foil kite .

Interesting
Can you share your feedback on it on both riding types ?

I'm sure it's a great foil and surfboard kite , but has nothing to do with TT .

Yup, the Soul 10m for the wind range.
But not for the preferred foil riding style.. then the Peak4 will be better.. but useless with a TT.
The Soul 6m keeps you foiling till 25kts without problems.. use it on shorter lines, great kite for throwing around and learning new tricks and no worries about restarting.
