Cabrinha HiRise Speed

Postby mattin » Sat Apr 17, 2021 5:54 pm

Thinking of the Cabrinha HiRise Speed HF for freeride and mainly boosting.

Im guessing:

The curve of the front wing is quite "bent" leading to quite good roll stability but on the other hand the front wing is quite "short" even though the AR is fairly high. Therefore it would be nice to know if anyone here has this foil and could comment on the roll stability and "grip" when "edging" with the hydrofoil for boosting.

Today I ride gong Pro M and gong allvator kite wing. The pro M is too slow for boosting and the allvator kitewing is way to unstable for loading huge airs.

Thanks in advance/ Martin

Hi Martin

I know this may come late but here it goes.
I do have the cabrinha Hi-Rise speed. But I am still learning, probably not the best foil for learning but I got a good deal and I took it.
I have the 40cm mast and doing some progress.
I really enjoy the foil but I am still in the taxi and take off phase.
As a beginner I don't know how to answer much of your questions. But for a comparison I have a Liquid force Rocket V2 with a 90cm mast and I can't do nothing compared to the hirise speed.
Wich is strange as I tougth the rocket v2 was going to be my learning foil so I then could jump to the hirise speed... Turns out I am learning and enjoying much more the hirise speed.
Hope this helps in anything

Best regards
João Silva

Now take that Rocket front wing and bolt it to the Cabrinha fuselage. Yes, the wing has 3 holes and the fuselage 2, but the holes distance is same. Mount the wing in the aft position so it covers the front mast bolt.
You´ll have one of the best foils for learning, trust me!

P.S. Sorry for misleading you. The LF Rocket wing cannot be mounted on the Cab Hi:Rise Speed fuselage without an adapter, but on the older Cabrinha foil.
Here are photos of both fuselages with LF Rocket wing. The adapter for the HiRise is made of an aluminum plate. Drop me a PM if you need me to get the dimensions for you.

Hi nixmatters

Thank you for your tip. Sorry for only noticing now, but I don't get notifications from the kite forum.
That is some amazing diy.
What I ended up doing was shortening the Liquid force mast from 90cm to 65cm.

It was a very interesting process wich I am thinking of posting on youtube.
Cutted on an aluminum Circular saw. Then redrill the bolt hole for a new thread. Then threading. The final touch was applying sicaflex to seal the hallow spots.

I am loving the LF rocket now. I am training my tacks and jibes.
I believe I was enjoying the hi:rise speed more not only because of the shorter mast but also because the cabrinha speed wing floats, making it easier to water start. But then I would take off and slowly started to descend as I was not able to keep the speed to give me enough lift (or brave enough :-? ) also I should mention I am a bit on the heavy side, so the hi:rise speed would require a bit more speed to keep me airborne...

Also for those having trouble finding the hi:RISE Speed specs, here goes:
Chord: 146.5 mm
Projected area: 565.1 cm²
Wingspan: 540.24 mm
AR: 5.2
Volume: 514,561 mm³

Wich is quite a race foil specs, except for the volume. The hi:RISE does have a thicker profile, wich I believe makes it more accessible.

Cool! Good idea to post a video :thumb:

You can try another hack with these 2 foil sets - the Cabrinha rear wing on the LF fuselage. The wing tips bent upwards will give you increased stability and the drag will be reduced a bit. No shimming needed. I'm just not sure if the distance between the bolts is same and can't check it out.
