I've bent/ broke many hooks over the last 20 years,thought it was due to being 200lbs + .Figured it was a normal/common experience. After the last one failed I noticed that one side was a fresh break and the other side had signs of tarnish(earlier break) ,so I guess giving it a look see from time to time would be prudent !

Someone could make a LOT of money if they figured out how to improve on a reliable attachment system (e.g. Fireball) that you could also unhook with.

Today I had an accident ...
Thank-you for posting this.

Thinking about it, having a hook at 90° with less vertical movement will significantly increase load on the hook anchor because of the increased angle of moment*. Very interesting.

* I think that's what it's called (I'm not a mechanical engineer).

I am only 66-67kg only :D Yes never thought about checking it before (1st time happen with almost 10year experience) ...
Also support (weld) joint hidden inside what makes inspection little bit complicated.

I wonder if you would be able to see those cracks through the coating? I looked at mine and I'm guessing the coating will be quite a lot more elastic than the metal underneath. Coating seems rather pointless by the way. Already been worn "out" for much of the hook itself - so at the moment it doesn't service much purpose - and if it hides potential structural issues than it can only be a negative - other than it might look nicer with a black hook rather than metal.

I´ll certainly have a look once in awhile now.

It's sad but it's true. How difficult is to manufacture a solid hook? I'm engineer too and I'm very disappointed with that problem. A lot "improvements" about searching the lightest canopy materials while hooks broke. Our safety should be the first point to ensure. Very disappointing with Mystic. I have a stealth bar that works perfectly but a breakage like that shouldn't be allowed...

Taking your advice, I checked my hook and I realized that it have a plate. I bought it last Black Friday on November. Maybe it's an updated and improved version?

thought to make same strengthening for new hook, but looks like Mystic did it by their self. In my opinion they should been replace to everyone hook as warranty!

Ion currently has a forged aluminum hook (6000 series? aluminum). It's derived from the mtn. bike industry. E.g. same construction and strength as a mtb stem. Note - they did have a hook recall on the C-Bar 1.0 version. The 3.0 now has the updated version. :thumb:

I'm a bit lost for words here. Mystic have upgraded the hook without telling their customers? Fine if it had been performance related, but due to a safety issue? If so that is a disgrace. Certainly worth getting to the bottom of.
