It's sad but it's true. How difficult is to manufacture a solid hook?
Ion currently has a forged aluminum hook (6000 series? aluminum). It's derived from the mtn. bike industry. E.g. same construction and strength as a mtb stem. Note - they did have a hook recall on the C-Bar 1.0 version. The 3.0 now has the updated version. :thumb:

6000 aluminum not good at all ... 6061 for example. For strength 7075 T6 grade need to be used.

I'm a bit lost for words here. Mystic have upgraded the hook without telling their customers? Fine if it had been performance related, but due to a safety issue? If so that is a disgrace. Certainly worth getting to the bottom of.
Agree here 100% ... Like if someone will complain give updated? :D

Thanks for clarifying precisely. I was being lazy hence the "?". It could be either 6061 or 7075 or possibly even 2014 T6. Regardless, they're all known for their strength for mtb component applications, so I'm good with whatever version of aluminum. :thumb:

I had 2 Mystic Stealth hooks break on me in 1,5 years. The first one I didn't bother with rinsing after sessions (never did that on my harnesses) but the second one I did. Didn't matter though, broke during a simple backroll.

I've got my third hook now (warranty) and at the base of the hook the sides are connected via a metal bridge part. I hope it'll be ok now. Will check in a few months though.

Taking your advice, I checked my hook and I realized that it have a plate. I bought it last Black Friday on November. Maybe it's an updated and improved version?
Yes, mine has that too. Must be an update, because my previous 2 didn't have it. They've also updated the lever to disengage the spreader bar some time ago, so it's easier to grip. I had to sometimes use a screwdriver to pry it open before that

Yes use sometimes screwdriver too … specially when hands freezing 😂
Do you have some pics of update?

No, but it's basically the same, only there's a ridge on the lever that makes gripping it easier. The update with the 'bridge' on the hook itself is posted already by someone else.

I did find 2 pictures of my broken hooks. First time and second time. First time was during a 40kts session with 15m jumps so I got lucky there... :o

Curious as to how many of you that have busted hooks are unhooking regularly? Or looping unhooked?

I do unhook. Of course not bigair, but still. I think this is not an option. Hook need to be just with enough thickness of material and that it.

Unfortunetly everything in kite boarding has a finite life. I change my lines every year on my ozone bar, And now changing
my flag out line every year after having it snap where it is knotted at the top of the PU line. Thankfuly it snapped as i was going up and snapped at 3 meters up. Hooks are no different especially if your regularly doing kite loops/mega loops. Im sure crack testing would most likely pick this up.
