Why is Reedin Kites so damn expensive

Postby BatmanIsABeast » Mon Apr 26, 2021 2:04 am

So Reedin Kites came out a year or two ago and out of the gate the company was charging above premium prices for a brand that had yet to establish itself. All kites fly the same and I know the designer is well equipped but the company still had not established itself. I am personally staying away from them. How can Kevin and his company justify the price?

Because they can do whatever they want? If they want to establish themselves as a premium brand, then go for it. Eleveight did the same thing two years prior. A lot of companies throughout history have done this. If you don't want to pay for them, then just buy Switch or Gong or whatever. They make great kites as well.

I'm just surprised at the 6? ? lines! Seems hard to justify.
I do feel a bit sorry for Kevin, starting a kite brand right before a pandemic and at the start of a lot of movement towards winging. Some people will start winging and then move to kiting but it will take years to know the ultimate impact on kiting.

Because there are people who are paying these prices. Yes, it is that simple.

I just took a quick look at their web site and their prices looked comparable or a little less than Cabrihna, so what are you comparing them to for being higher?

The market’s response to their pricing will decide their success or failure. If they charge top dollar and people buy it, that is well played on their part. Pay for it or don’t, but a thread dedicated to griping about a company’s pricing... what’s the point?

Also added to the cost are the contracts with the riders, trips, advertising, demos, videos, and the entire crew. I also think that the paralysis due to the pandemic has made a more scarce stock for this year.
But it is true that since I started in the sport 11 seasons ago the costs of a new kite have increased 50%.
For equipment that can be unusable in 2-3 years of use, these are expensive toys

Marketing strategy, customer perception

If a brand enters the market with a low priced product, that brand is percieved as being lower quality. This is a lasting impression and is nearly impossible to change.

Vs.

If a brand enters the market with a high priced product, that brand is percieved as being higher quality. This is a lasting impression and is not nearly as hard to change, but slowly dropping prices can potentially increase sales.

All of this is dictated by the psychology of the potential buyers. Marketing strategy always caters to the psychology of the buyer. No company can "create" a psychology in a competitive market.
