light wind twintip (but not doors)

Postby mass898 » Tue Apr 27, 2021 7:24 pm

hi all,

i am now the owner of a lieuwe 138. I am getting used to it. It seems it requires quite some wind to have fun with this board, at least 18 knots with my 11m EVO SLS. I am 80kg.

So am looking for a board that would do the job from 14 to 18 knots

what would you recommend? a door doesnt seem a good option as i believe i can still have some fun and jump with 15 knots. Just need to have some flatter rocker board.

Maybe a Ocean Rodeo Mako?
Never ridden one, but a few riders here have one and they all say it's a good light wind board too, especially the bigger sized board

At 80kg you should be able to go OK with a 12m Evo on a 138 Shotgun. I (80kg) go OK with my 12m Enduro V2 on my 136 Shotgun at the same time as a 80kg buddy goes fine on his 12m Evo on his Duotone 138. You need a 12m.

I’m 82kg
Mako’s a possibility but mine’s a bit heavy
I had a CrazyFly LW cruiser pro (door) 145x44 which was quite light for the size, very thin and flat. Quality LW board.
I eventually replaced it with a Nomad LW 142x43 which I find very easy for LW conditions.
Something to add to the research.

I have an Axis Ultra it's brilliant great in light wind and still great when the wind goes up. It's like an oversized freestyle board but the light wind performance is still very good.

Go big and light if you want to rock in light wind. Door style boards can be tons of fun, much more fun than being underpowered on a board that's too small. Don't fall into that mind trap.

Get a bigger kite instead. I have a 138 Shotgun and also weigh about what you weigh. It is a power hungry board, but I think more kite is more fun than more board. My 2 cents.

The 138 is 42 wide

Go wider for lighter wind with flatter rocker...yes

Longer does not help that much to plane earlier and track upwind

That is the reason for suggesting 47cm wide

+1.

If you want a nimble light wind board that whips to toe side and back with far greater ease than traditional light wind doors, try the Epic Oxygen. Its width will get you going in super light winds, but your style won't be hampered by its 135 length. :thumb:
