Duotune Evo vs Rebel

Postby yotamss » Thu Apr 29, 2021 6:15 pm

Hey,
I am a beginner, looking to buy my first kite (I did 3 lessons of 3 hours each), and I was thinking about one of the two below - Duotune Evo vs Rebel.

What do you recommend for a beginner (I want a kite that I will stay long with)?
(I have got to second hand offers about both of them from my kiting instructor, and want to hear advice from other guys too)

As a beginner you will probably progress faster on an all-around kite like the EVO. Buy a Rebel after one or two years of riding if you want to start sending bigger jumps or move into air-style.

What is your weight?

Both will work, but for most my guess is that the Evo would be a better fit. Rebel is not the kite you want to lose control over.

Five strut high aspect kites like Rebel tend to generate a looot of power, which might be troublesome for beginners. Plus they are a bit more demanding in controls, deffo require some experience.

So yeah, go with Evo, that would be much easier to progress on it.

If you want to boost and jump and over 100kg, go the Rebel.

The Evo is a better choice. It's more of an all-purpose kite, whereas the Rebel is more specialized (hooked-in big air). As a beginner, you don't know what style you'll like yet. It could be wave riding; it could be unhooked freestyle; it could be airstyle; it could be hydrofoil. The Evo is a better choice for exploring all types of riding. That's not to say that the Rebel isn't a great kite (it is), but it's overly specialized for a beginner. Have fun. :thumb:

If price is about the same, Evo.
If the Rebel is cheaper, you can save some money and still have a great kite.

Oh damn, I have only noticed this now.

Try not to buy the kites from your instructor, unless they give you a huge discount. Chances that this kite was used as a school kite, therefore slammed, abused and used way more than an average kiter does, are pretty damn high. :nono:
