Sad news. A 30 year old kiter died yesterday in Lanzarote. According to the news, the kiter was dragged 200m through the rocky shore. He died in the hospital due to a head trauma.

Well, unsure how ot happened. But here on Fuerte, 20 mi away, we had 25 knots gusting 32+ on Sunday.
I was pretty stetched on a 9 and was watching beginner classes on 6es 300 feet upwind from lava fiels while ebbing. Sure, it was funny to see them fly and crash, but ... I guess the folks here have a different sense of safety.

Famara, hmmm. Never kited but have windsurfed there in the waves. An unforgiving place.

Rest in peace
This seems to be a second case of an experienced kiter being dragged into rocks in stronger wind in about two months. Other details may differ and some may never been known.
Still, bad things can happen and unexpectedly to experienced kiters. It would be good to take a step back and reconsider our risk tolerance and care in choosing whether, when and where to kite.

Always very sad to read this kind of news. My condolences..
Would appreciate any additional details that can be shared so we could caution against this happening again, i.e. kite size, rider experience, weather abnormalities, equipment malfunction, etc.

I am in Lanzarote (Costa Teguise, east side of the island) and we had more like 35+ knots with big swell on these days.
Too big for wingfoiling
Very sad to hear... especially so young...

is it dangerous there at Famara? I was reading good opinions about spot + I like Canary Islands so I was thinking about going there for kiting one day, would I'd skip it if dangerous (and yes, even if opinions were positive in general, I recall narrow launching area was mentioned as one of the main cons).

I've kited there a few times (a while back), apart from not going to close to the wreck at low tide & there being quite a noticeable movement of water, it was fine
