Hi all,
I have been using a DaKine surface vest for many years, but need to replace it as it's wearing out. I am very happy with this impact vest as it fits well (barely notice it) and provides decent buoyancy. As this specific impact vest is no longer available which one would be the most similar one that you guys recommend?
Thanks.

I wanted a Whip, because of the extra bouyancy it has, and went to a shop to try it on with my own harness...unfortunately, didn't like the fit. I tried on several vests similar to the Dakine (Mystic, Prolimit, RideEngine) and ended up with the RideEngine. There wasn't much difference. Funnily enough...I bought an S, where in european sizes I normally get an MT of L. Whatever.
In short, if you can, go try some on with your own harness. If not: just pay attention to the sizing information and get any vest similar to the Dakine.

Hey Mike,
Dakine still makes this vest, the wind side of things is just getting fired back up at Dakine, but they are in the market

I posted this question on May and got a lot of responses. Go check it out on my profile.
After trying on and ordering many different vests, the Mystic Block Vest is the best one. I’m sure that the forward wip is the safest, but I thought the mystic block was more comfy and went with that.
So conclusion: try the forward wip or the mystic block and pick the better of the two that you prefer. I did a lot of research, ordered many vests, and talked to lots of people and came to that conclusion.

Did you try the Ride Engine Defender in your side-by-side? If so, how did it stack up with the Mystic? That is Ride Engine's newer foil-specific vest with harder impact panels.

I use a Prolimit half padded XF vest which looks very similar.

I have been using the Oneil Gooru and love it. The zip mechanism broke after a few seasons (metal). Currently riding it as a pullover. Very comfortable with a waist harness.
They discontinued the Gooru so I bought a Oneil Slasher as a backup, the fit feels the same.
Body Glove is worth checking out, as I have found their pfds to be the most comfortable in the underarm area.
I wear the Oneil Gooru inside my wetsuit, and an additional floatation vest over everything else.

I did not try the defender actually, just the empax. I didn’t think the empax had sufficient padding, but maybe the defender would be better.
