unfortunately...
i can't really disagree with the above post.
however, i am here to help....
for you shy guys wearing boardshorts... the internets has this for you.
i'm guessing a banana wouldnt be nearly as cumbersome as wearing oversized boardshorts over a a tight perfectly fitting wetsuit.

I'd ride in a burkha if I could -- nobody needs to see all the flab, bulges and bumps. Shorts are a public service.

All the fake explanations of the practicality of this are laughable and miserable.
My Fusion leg straps rip up wet suits a lot faster if I don't have something between the two of them. Is that practical?

Ew, underpants under a wetsuit? that's just sick.

under?
if folks are wearing boardshorts out of "modesty".. it would not be surprised if they are also wearing undies *over* their wetsuit too
(don't know..and never asked)
i learned to never assume anything..

in this discussion there are those who use shorts for their own reason ... and other people who bully those who wear them and would like them to stop wearing them .... interesting. I will probably wear them.

Using a seat harness, yes it makes sense, to avoid wear on the suit, definitely.
But as by far the majority use waist harnesses, it is not the real reason in general

I don’t care what I look like with or without shorts over/under or anywhere with a wetsuit long or shorty, even on my head some days. I also don’t care what you think of what I look like with or without shorts worn anywhere. I also don’t care what you look like wearing or not wearing shorts. I care a tiny bit that you think you know WHY I wear them as if you are a mind reader or some exotic special human who can know things without any information/knowledge/involvement or questioning. But only a little, it’s a self-limiting issue.
So here is some unasked for information. Sometimes when doing downwinders with friends we pass through very busy areas and I will wear REALLY LOUD UGLY shorts over a wetsuit so my friends can find me in the crowds to help keep us together. Because it seems safer, like the wetsuit seems safer if you have to spend too much time in the water on a downwinder. And I can carry extra gear that is more easily accessible in pockets. I would like to say I’m sorry that this offends some of you. I’d like to say that but I won’t. If you become offended by this, that just adds to the joy and makes it more likely I will do it again to point out IT’S YOUR ISSUE, GET OVER IT.
Edit; sometimes I’ll even wear a helmet, sometimes I won’t hahahaha

i do not believe that word means what you think it does...
...i'm pretty sure
the word you wanted was "compassion"
i'd feel the same if i saw an old man that forgot to put on his pants....or a blind person struggling to open a door....or when i see a kiter with an oversized kite and a board leash to him...
i just want to help..
it is not pity...or "bullying"....it is compassion.
some folks are scared of spiders..others scared to fly... apparently many kiteboarders have this irrational fear of others thinking they aint got no balls. (hint: mo ome cares if you do or dont)
the worst part.. these poor souls think they are actually hiding their junk when in fact they're doing nothing but drawing attention to the obvious "overcompensation".
if these little keystrokes can keep one person from throwing on some ocean pacific shorts over their wetsuit... it was worth it.

Again, it is so nice that you have this extraordinary ability to know exactly the intent and reasons for someone else’s actions. Perhaps you could use this superpower for something actually useful and helpful in the bigger picture of real problems. Or not.

LOL. This thread is even better than the 'Absurd discussion about helmets'
Anyways, everybody knows that guys that don't use short over the suit put a rolled sock under the suit to make it look more bulky.
