Anyone using a regular cork liner (thin 1-2mm) as a traction pad on your kite surfboard? I know they come with and without adhesive. Simply interested to hear if they make a good traction pad and if it lasted a reasonable amount of time. Wonder if it is worth a try, rather than EVA. Possibly cheap and eco friendlier.
Did you cut strips or just cover the whole desired area?
I'm tempted to try it as a front pad and or the in-between part on one of my boards. Wonder if it is worth a try, rather than EVA. Possibly cheap and eco friendlier.

I’ve seen several very good examples of using cork for pads. They don’t absorb any water, provide great traction and last. Guys covered whole top of the board.
As of eco friendly - people forget that not using hot shower, using least tap water e.g. not flushing, not having kids, not traveling, not using transportation, not having manufacturing - are easiest eco friendly things to do
But realistically, megapacks of 3oz tiny water bottles are first thing which should not exist on this planet.
Cut the pretty cork pad, post pics!

It can be wonderful.
The adhesive lined cork squares and hex marketed for coaster crafts do not last. I believe the adhesive is part of the problem.
Some of the corks are cork composite. For example you can sometimes see the roll from the side and you can see two layers 1mm bonded to make a 2mm thick pad. These also do not last.
I got a roll of 4 mm cork and it crumbled fast.
I got a stack of 2 mm cork placemats I believe from iKea and they are superb. Use a cork borer or leather punch to make a pattern of holes and you get a little more traction. Or you can score them with a table saw or router to make a waffle. Cork really is super for both wet and dry traction.

What kind of adhesive do you use for the placemats?

To sum it up, get cork without adhesive backing and use contact cement. Find good quality cork that does not crumble. Consider punching a pattern, or maybe cut strips? Got it. Thanks.
