Rodanthe jug handle & Oregon Inlet Pier status

Postby beebad » Tue Jun 15, 2021 2:41 am

DRAT.

I was excited to see the new Oregon Inlet fishing pier opened by now, it is not. There is a beefy walkway to the start of the pier that is not completed. What a down bubble.

The jug handle bridge in North Rodanthe has about a half mile of serious work left to be done.

I doubt it will be finished this year.

Good to know on the Jug. Hatteras has entered our fall kite conversation again.

Check out the section at 1:12. You can just kite right underneath the Jug Handle.... :o
lol.

I imagine that's a big NO NO with hefty fines attached once the bridge is operational.

Yeah, big big fine in the future if not arrestable.
That is not going to last and they will ban kiting anywhere near this bridge. This is an accident waiting to happen. Imagine driving and all of a sudden a kite crashes onto your hood and windshield losing control of your vehicle into oncoming traffic. Actually I saw this last week and showed my wife. I didn't think it was in obx, cuz i didn't look closely at the video.

I saw this video last week and immediately felt like it could be a problem. I didn't really want to call attention to the video, so I didn't comment at the time. But since the topic has now been opened, I'll just say that this is not good for the kiting community on Hatteras Island. Not only could kiting under the bridge lead to a kite ban, but also consistently cutting across the National Seashore grasslands could cause similar problems.

Planet of the Apes downwinders are great fun, but please don't do them like this guy.

Yes! I pointed that out to my wife last week when they were doing this in the video.

If there happens to be a log or something you cannot see and get impaled on something, you are in a very very remote area. It would be a horrible slog or crawl out back to the road…and there are fucking snakes in there.

I saw another video where knuckleheads with kites boost over and across the game stand roofs in the sound. This I think is another big stupid thing to do.

Be safe and remember it is not all about you making the next big video. Be cool and protect kiting access for everyone.

Here is state of completion. Looks like new stainless railing along the length of the pier. Fishing along the jettys facing the pier is a snag nightmare. The wind picks up maybe tomorrow but definitely saturday.
