Moses W1000 - Is it too big for Kiting?

Postby sonny2727 » Tue Jun 15, 2021 3:40 am

Hey Guys
Before I purchase W800, which is supposed to be the wing for kiting, I thought I should ask this question. Currently I have 633 for low wind and I'd like to replace that with say W1000 if same low end, as W1000 fits onto kite fuse. I'm 70kg so consider that as well. Most would suggest W800 for kiting but just wondering if W1000 is just too big?

Two years back at 200 lbs I went from 633 (1233 sq.cm) to 683s (aka 679) which is 1005 sq.cm and never looked back. Many of my friends followed same pattern and some are still riding 683s/679. Then last January there was 695 introduced - a wing of 770 sq.cm, fairly thin and fast and it replaced both 590 (633 sq.cm) and 679 for me. That lasted about 7 months till I finally got my hands onto 800 (840 sq.cm) and then I sold my 679 and surf fuselage. What I didn’t foresee is that I won’t be able to ride in light winds on 800 so I searched for more and I got ahold of 1000 wing.
The 1000 is great to surf with, wakefoil with, probably wingfoil with for lighter riders but it felt a bit like riding a railroad track with a kite in means of excess roll stability. I wouldn’t suggest 1000 for kiting but I’d recommend 800 or maybe even better a pair of 730 sq.cm plus 1200 sq.cm wings which both fit kite fuselage. My friend from Gorge who was riding my old 683s asked for a “larger/slower than 590” for his daughter and I sent him the 730 sq.cm wing earlier this spring. Later in May I met him riding the hell out of 730 himself, instead of his old wing and he loved it.
Kite fuselage is lighter, more compact and there’s no reason for a 70 kilo person to ride monster of 633

The 800 is still one of my favorite wings but I spent riding 730 this spring way more.

Thanks. based on the above and my need for going fast/jumping I'd think 800 has the best balance ...re-633, it still has the advantage of a very tight turning circle and maybe free style tricks if you are into it. But for straight up boosting 800 should be good

At your weight the w1000 is unnecessarily big. The W800 has the same lowend as the w633 for kiting. The 1000 will give you a little bit more lowend, closer to the 790, but I already find that is not necessary with my 85kg. I use the W800 with a 7m kite down to 8 knots on a 90cm board.

You should get a pair - one of race 637-645-671 wings and 800. The former will kick ass for speed/jumping the later will deliver decent speed and great lightwind.

I do have the 637 and it's great so I'll get 800 now...easy :)

…The W800 has the same lowend as the w633 for kiting…
Gunnar, it must be your skill, weight or combination of a large kite making it that way. The 633 for my 205 lbs doesn’t stall when 800 does distinctively. I don’t bring them to stall speed but I feel the difference between a thick 1233 sq.cm low aspect and thin 840 sq.cm HA wings when I can’t use 800 in lightwind - it needs more speed to fly.

Add 1200 sq.cm wing too and keep one compatible fuselage only

Same here.

As 60kg I am keeping a 637 and buying a 800/399 set for lightwind and sweel ride with a kite.

Can anyone share your thoughts on this wing set for swell ride, pump/glide and wing foil for a light rider?

I just moved from 633 to 800. To me it feels like 800 is better light wind. It needs more speed to start yes, but glide is so much better. 633 feels draggy in ultra light wind, don't have that problem with 800. My weight is 75kg. I don't think you need anything bigger than this for kite if you are 70kg. 800 is more technical, but not alot. Also more agile. I love it!
