Would you use Slingshot RPM as High Wind Kite?

Postby RaviTheJedi » Thu Jul 08, 2021 5:16 am

For my high wind kite, I am thinking about getting a 2019 Slingshot RPM New condition.

Would you use this as high wind kite?

We use RPM's all the time here in the Gorge in high & gusty winds. They work great !

What do you want to do with it?? In other words, what's your riding style? E.g., there are many better kites for airstyle, but the RPM is great for unhooked freestyle.

What size do you consider small? What is your body weight?

I weigh 180lbs. Thinking about getting an 8m for high wind conditions.

Kiteloops and big air. Some people are suggesting North Orbit for this.

As between the two, the North Orbit would be a better choice. The RPM loops better than most kites, but the Orbit would provide better boosting capability and much better hang time, in addition to great looping capability. Of course, if you can demo both before buying, you'd be able to decide for yourself.

I agree with this. Kites like the orbit, evo, pivot (pivot right now is my favorite for a high wind kite) all give you better range than the RPM, and I would choose those unless you are unhooking. Then the RPM is king, nothing gives you more pop and slack than a modern RPM, great for wakestyle.

The RPM goes straight up and then straight back down again, not much time to do your board off! Pivot or other suggestions above are better for pure big air and megaloops. The rpm always catches you on a megaloop and very reliable in gusty winds but there's not much float time.
