Core XR5 back lines too tense

Postby direnc » Thu Jul 15, 2021 10:57 am

Hi,

I tried a friends Core XR5 12m upon his request. His back lines are all too tense. The bar is brand new, out of the box sensor 3 (did check the lines for equality just in case).Even with trim pulled all the way in they never get any slack.
Is this normal for this kite?

Not normal but different models and brands do have varying degree of slack. If there was none at all it would be very difficult to launch and incredibly dangerous.

Had same problem with min. Check the back line bridle length. Every model of the XR has a different bridle. Try lengthening the back line bridle lines.

Hi,

What do you mean with "too tense" ?
I would think the relevant criteria to decide if the backlines are "too short" or if something is wrong would be if the kite back-stalls or not or if the trim/depower doesn't provide the expected wind range and keeps it powered up all the way all of the time.
It might just be that the kite has more bar pressure then you are experienced to?
FYI: You can change the bridle connection points to change the bar pressure a bit although its not a gigantic difference.
At least with no slack on the back lines you get a more responsive kite... :D

I do remember having some slack on my XRs in extreme conditions on my 8M kite when there is some trim applied but usually I rode my larger sized XR kites without any trim.
Has been a while since I touched my XRs though since I am mostly on a foil these days.

The XR's have a 6 pulley bridle so the kite AOA can change a lot and still keep decent tension the rears so you can steer. Do the stall test as described above.

Better to have the lines tight as long as it’s not back stalling. This gives the kite full power and range. Lots of people fly with lose back steering lines and have little control of the kite. Watch the line tension video by advakite on you tube.

If the bar is set properly would it not be better to just lengthen the rear pigs or shorten the front pigs or is this bar just dedicated to one kite?
