Strange problem. I have a low pulse - down to 37 when asleep. Tried a Fitbit and a couple of other fitness trackers (a Huawei) and they all show double my heart rate 50% of the time. Sitting down I have 42 and they show 84 and so on.
84 is my pulse when I am running!
Wondered if someone with similar pulse could recommend a tracker or a watch or a make. which does not have this problem and good too.
People with normal pulse probably not affected
Something below USD 200 would be good. Water proof obviously
Thanks.

Anything Garmin. I've been wearing various price levels for years. Currently wearing a Forerunner 245. Never had a problem with my 35-38 RHR when I was an ultra runner. Last night it was 44.
You're certainly not running at 84bpm, so I think your counting is a bit off

I have a Garmin too, and no problem with 44. Before corona I was a fair bit lower than that and I've seen 37 on the watch plenty of times.
I do not understand how you can run with a HR of 84 though, I once had to keep below 100 because I had a concussion but still had to ascend a mountain and could absolutely not run sustained without going way over 90.

Some sensors appear to double count pulse waves because they count the usual peak of the pulse wave (when blood is being ejected from your left ventricle) as well as a secondary little blip of increased pressure when the aortic valve slams shut at the end of ejection. Between these two peaks is the dicrotic notch. The second wave is often more pronounced and mistakenly counted as a separate heart beat when the heart rate is slow. Some monitors allow one to reduce the sensitivity and can eliminate the annoying double counting. It would be worth looking into the possibility of decreasing the sensitivity of your HR monitor.

Thanks for confirming Garmin counts low pulse correctly. Huawei and older fitbit I tried do not work for me...
I take it none of these devices can measure pulse when wet?
As per 84 when running - i think my pulse does not go over 100, but you are right - i do not actually know as I only ever mesured pulse after 3 or 5 minutes after I finished excersize.
Funny I am not actually fit - can't really run more than 1000m.
Only started measuring it recently - using blood pressure monitor usually

Thanks, probably something like this. Or they use the Fourier transform on a badly filtered signal and take second harmonic as first

I wouldn't recommend it as I find the watch in general quite useless, but my Samsung Galaxy Active 2 do track my puls to below 40 (also when I sleep). Might be other newer Samsung watches that are actually good watches that will track the puls that low.
I'm not sure if there is any new technology developed, but I have never found a watch that works all that well for training by measuring around your wrist. I use my watch for kiting without a belt around my chest, but I don´t really care if the measurements are all that accurate when kiting so...

Yes, some recent Garmin watches can do HR while swimming although not as good as a dedicated chest strap. My Fenix 6 shows HR during kiting just fine, if you wear a wetsuit over it it's likely even more accurate.

My cheaper Garmins didn't, nor did they measure HIIT stuff well either. New ones/more expensive ones I never had a problem, other than the readout is about 7-10s delayed.
If you're doing a lot of water sports, avoid touch screens. It's why I went to the 245 from whatever similar touchscreen one I had.
