Going upwind tip:
Better to go a bit slower in the right direction
Than a bit faster in the wrong direction
Exactly...

I knew there would be 100 responses. Everyone has an opinion it's the kite it's the board it's the technique. I know for me the real reason is too many donuts.

From what i have seen with people riding twin tips and surfboards is this :
Some of them were constantly going 5 degrees less upwind than all the others.
What did they all have in common you ask ?
Helmets
From what i have seen with people riding twin tips and surfboards is this:
Some of them had their brains squished out from being dropped onto hard pack sand ot dragged through rocks, thus ending their kiting fun and ability to provide for their family.
What did they all have in common you ask ?
No Helmets!
Pulley, why do you gotta bring safety bs up in a thread about upwind?????

Mr. V it is because of the excessive wind drag caused by them
Glad to hear a Canadian schooled you at going upwind

Glad to have it happen. I was getting a bit of a "big head" running circles around everyone else. But as the saying goes, there's always a "bigger fish".

Should start another thread titled what influences the height of jumps, how many donuts or how much ipa?

Going upwind tip :
Useful on totally onshore wind
To make it out fast make sure you are on the correct tack
Wind direction could vary by 10 degrees as you try to get out
Let's say that angle 090 is straight on versus shoreline
Wind can go to angle 085 for few minutes then 095 right after that for few minutes too
That has a great influence at getting you going upwind away from shore
Do not go too far on one tack
Do shorter tacks and see by looking at shoreline which one is giving you the advantage of lift
Keep doing that until you have made it out to where you want to be
