CrazyFly News:

Introducing TerTex

Introducing TerTex.png

With our never ending drive to make better kites, we are proud to introduce TerTex. TerTex is a brand new material used on all 2022 CrazyFly kites. It is two times stronger than our Triplex triple ripstop and at the same time TerTex is forty percent lighter than the Dacron material we use. TerTex is applied in strategic areas of the kite in order to save weight, but at the same time, maintain a rigid and durable frame of the kite. Our designers found TerTex perfectly suitable for all struts, wingtips of the canopy and canopy reinforcement over the central strut. In these areas, TerTex replaced Dacron and for example 2022 Hyper 12m kite is 0,3 kg lighter than the 2021 version.
As clearly visible on TerTex, it has a very special, brand new, ultra resistant coating. The coating does not only increase the strength and reduce stretch of the material, but also has better UV resistance prolonging the material lifespan.

Lighter kites move faster through the air, are easier to relaunch and turn quicker. It also increases the wind range, as low end performance is increased, because the lighter kite is still able to fly in lighter winds.

TerTex is definitely a great addition to 2022 CrazyFly kites.

My guess is it's the same as the Duotone Pentex stuff

That's very interesting as in the text it says that it will be used in all kites, so what will the pricing be for Crazy Fly kites compared to SLS kites by Duotone, which clearly are expensive?

2020 Hyper 9m 1399,- 12m 1599,-
2121 Hyper 9m 1499,- 12m 1699,-
2022 Hyper 9m 1569,- 12m 1769,-

So again an increase, but that was expected. They do have sales now and then btw, with 10%-30% depending on what you are buying. Still cheaper than Duotone or Core for instance, plus they're made entirely in Europe.

TerTex is not the same as Duotone Pentex. We use a different supplier from Japan for Ripstop and TerTex. Yes, TerTex is used in all 2022 kites. Faxie got the pricing correct.

Cool. And I'm thankfully not planning to enter the kite repair business anytime soon.

Good call! Did Teijin really hang you out to dry with no deliveries for quite some time this year? Well, every one of their customers was affected, but it must really suck when you own your kite production and it's in Europe.

Why not openly say it's Sakai Techfiber? It's made in Japan with raw materials from Teijin's biggest competitor - Toray. And from the tech specs I've seen, it's better than Teijin canopy ripstops.

It's really hard these days not to find fanboys or people that just praise the brand they own, have had the chance to own 2 kite brands for over a year. I gotta say the ripstop in my 2020 crazyfly kites has been very reliable, kites have tons of use and some nasty crashes and after a year not a single rip or pinhole. To the touch their ripstop feels thicker and more waxy compared to others, might no be as light but it gives you that sturdy feeling. Seen other premium brand kites (pricier) getting pinholes with 50% less use compare to my kites and they are not even a year old. Hope crazyfly keep it this way as tbh don't care if I don't have the lightest kite or the fastest kite as long as it holds up great overtime

They were 'mediocre' in the weight department, but now they're nearing Ozone territory. The 2020 Hyper 12m was 4,5kg, the 2021 4kg and now the 2022 3,7kg.

Though I must say, the weight of my 2020 12m Hyper isn't really a problem. The kite stays in the air just fine even when I can't ride it anymore on my twintip (yes, I'm aware I could squeeze out a bit more if the kite was lighter, but it would only account for 2 knots max). Would be another story when you're a lightweight rider or if you want to use a hydrofoil, but I don't think people will then go for a 5 strut high aspect kite anyways.
