Fixing Race foils - Levitaz R5 Mast damage - performance on race?

Postby aendorphin » Fri Aug 27, 2021 12:21 pm

I have a Levitaz R5 V2 Mast with the R5 wings. Unfortunately, a little damage occurred on the mast's "trailing edge'". I'm not sure how it is caused as I don't remember any time I hit it. Maybe it was damaged at the equipment storage at the spot I last visited.

I attach a couple of images of the damage. It is somewhere at the center of the mast, closer to the board than to the wings.
I don't really feel now if it affects my riding as my wings are also damaged a bit (as I hit a turtle  ). But I guess if I want to do proper racing it should be repaired right? Local guy who can work with carbon should be able to fix it, do you have any recommendations on how to fix this?

If it will be fixed will it be still much worse than a brand new mast? Can it really affect my speed and stability? Should I get a new mast for competitions, or can I save money here?

Official reply from Levitaz Team from email:

The damage is definitely repairable and has no affect on the performance after a successful reparation. It can be done by anyone with experience working with composite materials.

Procedure:
1. Cut off all loose fibres
2. Fill the gap with fibres and resin
3. Sand the protruding material down
5. 4. Fill any pinholes with resin
6. Sand again
7. Put on filler
