RV kite destination south europe

Postby Atte » Mon Aug 30, 2021 12:48 am

Any suggestions on a destination in south Europe where you can camp/park close to the beach with the camper van/RV for a few months this winter?

Tarifa of course, but if you're going to make a trip with a few stops, it could be an idea to start in Portugal (Esposende, LAgos...) and then go to Spain (Canos de Meca, Tarifa and all the spots to the North), then France with Leucate, Gruissan, Sete, Hyeres...) and then go to Italy (and why not to Sicily at Lo Stagnone).
It would be a great trip where you could see different countries, landscape and awesome food !

How is the wind? My impression is that most places, if not all, in South Europe is out of season?

In Europe, there is not really a wind season. In the South, there is a thermal wind during summer, but with low to medium wind speed (12-20 knots).
During winter, the wind is mainly due to weather depression with stronger wind.

This website give soem statistics for the main spots (Leucate in this case) :
https://whenwherekite.com/Leucate-Aude-France.html

And for Tarifa :
https://whenwherekite.com/Tarifa-Spain.html

As you can see, there is not really a season for the wind.

I have always wondered about the stats from that site. Where does the data come from? Every single place I have been to for a longer period of time (let's say 2 weeks or more) - it has never even been close to matching the "statistics" on that site.

Of course, and freezing conditions.

And camps are closed, so...

Wind statistic looks awesome for the winter. With Foilkites and hydrofoil all you need is 6kts and you are rocking!

It is maybe not always spot on, but it is a good indication.
Windy gives more or less similar results :
-Tarifa : https://windy.app/forecast2/spot/23140/ ... statistics
-Leucate : https://windy.app/forecast2/spot/344598 ... statistics

The freezing conditions are in Scandinavia and a lot of guys are on the water year around up here so for us up here in the north it will be normal summer conditions.
