Pivot S25 - 9m

Postby BillyGoatGruff » Tue Aug 31, 2021 9:54 pm

I'm currently riding 9/11/14m Naish Dash, with a 7m Pivot. How is the S25 Pivot 9m for jumping and general riding ? Looking to upgrade my 9m Dash, it boosts well but not outstandingly, hoping the Pivot would have that extra bit of boost. 87kg, Shinn Monk 135cm, UK Kiting, looking at the 25 to 40mph range.

I hope the replies are positive ! I ordered a pivot 9mtr ltd this afternoon. Was looking for the same as you, higher jumps than my rpm ,my looping side is my weak jumping side and my mega loops are inconsistent and frustrating !

Haven't ridden the 9m S25, but am similar weight and riding a similar size board. I think the 9m Pivot would be a handful in the 40 mph range. I do have the S25 8m and it's a beast. I think would be more similar to a 9m Dash for power. I'm super lit at 40mph on the 8m....Maybe Taut might have a better idea.

*haven't tried the new bridle setting yet on the 8m.

I had a 9 m Dash alongside my 8m Pivot for while. If you replace your 9m Dash with a 9m Pivot you will have a different wind range for sure. More low end, less high end. If you want to cover a similar wind range, take the 8m. I am not sure if the Pivot will boost higher, but it will have more hang time.

Thanks. I flew a friends 2018 - 9m Pivot and it was quite a handful in 38/40mph. I found the kite would not push easily to the edge of the wind window and was very "grunty" at the top end. Hard to find much information on the S25, the one review I did find imples the top end is greatly improved on the S25:

https://www.thekitemag.com/tests/naish-pivot-s25/

"Our 9m test kite saw some epic strong and variable northern European conditions and handled them with grace. When perhaps we would normally reach for the 7m, you could drop the pigtails up a setting and ride far more comfortably, with the kite spanning out and moving forward, but seemingly remaining as poised as ever. We were genuinely surprised how far you could push overpowered riding whilst feeling in control."

So there will be some conjecture here but the new bridle settings works well for top and low end. I have not tried the 9 high end in the S25, I took the 8 out in what I think was upper 30ties, but I find it a tad hard to be super accurate on the Wind estimation. On the 8, I though it was super easy to ride it. Great power and fuld control. I have definitely tried other sizes bridle settings. I do think 40 mph will be a…hmmm..powered sessions. The 9 I had the year before and it was nuts jumping. I have the 8 this year to adjust for the big wave nuking fall sessions. I am assuming that the range you provide the 40 is a 10% case…and the Wind speed you are really looking it is around 30…in which case, the 9 will be pretty lit and awesome in all respects.

Coming of the Dash 8m to the S25 Pivot 9m, so cant fully compare 1:1 on windrange etc., but the pivot will have better low end and is way easier to go upwind. @72 kg it has me flying upwind on a TT in 18-19 knots. 23 up to 30 knots you will be in the sweetspot, more wind you will be lit and it pulls grunty but manageable. Boosting wise it's just more forgiving than the Dash - you will boost higher more easily. Definitely more hangtime also, and softer on the loops on the way down. Overall S25 Pivot 9m is an excellent kite that insipres confidence and will make everything easier than on the Dash (except unhook), so go for it.

Since you already have the 7m pivot, 9m will be great addition. Good boosting kite + fun on a surfboard.
