This has to be the worst year ever for kitesurfing in the UK, really light winds and very often weak easterly winds.Normally we get really good Autumn winds rolling in off the Atlantic in September.... but not this year! This is due to the jet stream moving far south this summer. How has the summer wind been in France, Holland, Belgium, Germany etc ?
This has been the worse summer by far in terms of wind since 2008 ( when i started kitesurf) here in Montreal area. I think i ve got only 4 good days plus 4 light wind days in the last 3 months.
Foilers would say it was great, there been plenty of those 10 knots days tho

South Wales: Been demonstrably shit this year too. Last year kited 72 days, this year so far 31... No other change in availability or circumstances, actually last year I was off the water for 10 weeks due to the first lockdown and subsequent gardening back injury.

Just returned from a semi annual kite trip to the outer Hebrides, done a similar trip 4 times before in September and usually able to kite a minimum 5 out of 14 days, often would have had more but its too windy! This trip I only got 2 sessions and both were low wind downwinders (as nothing else was possible)!

Praying for a month of SW Autumn storms soon!

East coast US - shit as well . Virginia and OBX way below average. looks like hurricanes preferred way is into Gulf of Mexico now .

Climate change : my question is since a lot of usual kite destinations got worst , are there new emerging locations with better winds now ?

Maybe winds got better elsewhere and we just need to find new patterns .

The lack of wind in the UK so far this month is even having an affect on the wholesale cost of electricity.
The first two weeks of September 2021 have seen unseasonably low wind. The chart below shows the cumulative distribution of wind load factors observed for the last six years. Here we define the load factor as the wind generation in each period divided by the maximum wind generation seen that year. The first two weeks of September 2021 are strikingly anomalous, with 50% of periods seeing wind generation at less than 15% of the annual maximum, and 92% of half hours seeing wind generation of less than 25% of the annual maximum.

What is causing the record pricing in the GB power market?

Funny but i have a very different experience, i never kited so many times as this year and broke my Woo pr several times in 35+ kts.
The wind in north area is often a bit better I think. With 70 Session i can't call it a bad year and I'm only talking about 7-9-11m wind ,no foil or 15m etz.

Same here in Spain generally although my area has had an unusally windy summer
https://elpais.com/economia/2021-09-14/ ... coles.html

The increase in the price of electricity, which has been practically continuous since June, is based on the international prices of gas, a raw material that is used for combined cycle power plants and which is the latest technology that enters the market pool, and those of CO₂ emission rights, which last week rose a little more to 62 euros per ton. To this is added the lower contribution of renewables in the energy mix (especially due to the lack of wind), which forces an increase in combined cycles.
