Very irresponsible for IKA to advocate this. In the United States when beyond the narrow limits of a swimming, surfing, or bathing area, Windsurfing, kiteboarding, and Wing boarding is a vessel under 46 U.S.C & 2101 and therefore subject to applicable regulations administered by the coast guard and it's office of boating safety. The Coast Guard at a very popular California sailing spot was out warning people kiting after sunset because of people stuck out in the water after dark.

oh come on. It is good fun and super weird. It depends a lot on the location you kite in.

I've done it and it was fantastic. It's actually ok to see if you do it in a full moon and it helps if it's a spot you know well ie local spot.

I used to do it a lot in my pre-kids days, and in the right location with the right wind, it's safe as. Definitely lots to learn from riding through feel rather than through vision. Quite tricky to assess the height of your jumps to know when to redirect the kite. That was the main issue. Glowsticks on the gear help a lot when there are several riders. Makes it quite spooky for outsiders!
Definitely will do more of that this season

It’s pretty common in NE Brazil during full moon.
Wind is sideshore to sideonshore, water is warm.

I never did it, because I fear busting my knees due to a miscalculated landing.

Done it and its a new dimension in a pitch black.

No Moon, just the lights from hotels in Sanur, Bali. 4 kites in the air.

Because no preps, easy to loose the board. Would put some standard marine green red white lights on kite and board next time. If ever :)
