Do you recommend trying to fix my old board?

Postby DuoiQueen » Sat Oct 23, 2021 10:08 pm

Hey
So this is my old board from 2014 and I really liked the model but didn’t use it so much.. the thing is that I will probably buy a new board now, but I wanted to know if you guys think it’s a good idea to send this board to someone who repairs twin-tips..?
I sent him the photos and he said that he thinks the cost of the repair will cost me too much and the result will not 100% be good enough,
so maybe I should consider it again..

1) Should I send it to him to see what he can do? The bindings looks pretty good and I cut with knife only the color that keep getting off

2) Maybe I can try to have an adventure and learning to fix it by myself with YouTube or something?

3) Maybe I will just make a cool shelf/bad/chair or something out of it…. 🤨😃

Thank you all for the help

Many options as you mentioned.

A table or bench is cool.

If you travel to a cheaper place you can have it fixed.
Or give it to poor people.

If you have sufficient funds to buy a new one, go ahead and get something nice.

If you are into fixing things, go ahead and enjoy the experience.

that is barely scratched. When it snaps in two that's when you have to get rid of it, or if it delaminates. Don't fix it tho. Just sell it as is and get a new board. No sense in riding a board you hate.

It sounds like you don't much care for the board, so I would rule out Option# 1.

Boards are fairly easy to fix with flexible marine epoxy - especially if you don't care how it looks. Personally, I would go with Option# 2.

That top layer that peels off is annoying because it can disturb the flow of water on the rail. And it is impossible to repair. So, cut all the loose bits off with a sharp blade, sand the corners a little bit if they are rough, and keep riding it or give it away.

Does not look like a big deal to fix I fixed a friend's board with inserts popping out that was on the dangerous side.
You should try if you feel like it as long at the board is watertight and no water gets in the core that is fine

Super easy to repair. I have fixed much worse, and while I am handy I did not have prior composite experience. Get two part epoxy, sandpaper, some clamps, two stiff boards/plates, and plastic sheet or wax paper. Saturate the thing with the mixed epoxy, place the plastic/paper over the area with LOTS of overlap (the glue spreads far), clamp both side between the stiff boards/plates, wait for cure, then sand off the excess epoxy. If you want to be fancy, add a layer of fiberglass top and bottom. With that size ding, you will probably be fine without fiberglass.
