Bar Compatibility

Postby Lamilu » Fri Nov 12, 2021 2:20 am

Are major brands bars compatible with other brand kites.?
For example, may I put an Bandit S2 bar on a Duotone Neo?
The main concern is line lengh and depower, the attatchment system is easy to adapt.

so mostly yes... there is a table somewhere that details them all in one of the threads

I do find that smaller kites are a bit picky and need to be trimmed or sometimes the power up and actually make the kite fly backward as the rear lines are too short.

Also most do have the flying lines as static and reasr adjustable, however bought RRD the other day and their loops & knows are the opposite to my other brands, naish, north, cabrinha, core slingshot so had to make a set of pigtails to adjust & then leave them on the kite

Would be a lot simpler if all bars and lines shipped with universal pigtails. Or if everyone agreed that it’s knots on your steering lines and loops on your centre lines. Yes I’m talking to you F-one!

Dreamstick bar from Reedin is very universal. The braids can be adjusted as needed.

If we look at currently sold bars and e.g. not something from 10 years ago:
There are still a few high Y split brands, notably Duotone, Core and Gaastra.
Flight characteristics will change between low V and high Y bar, e.g. loop ratio and extremely loading the kite might cause issues.
Also the flag-out system on Core is slightly different.

I tried an 8m 2022 Duotone Neo SLS on an 19m line Ozone.
Thought It flew great.
Maybe shortening lines partially compensates high Y Bar.
Since I never tried a trust or click bar on it, cant evaluate how different it would be…
So there is nothing to miss…

Does anyone have experience flying North Orbit with Duotone Trust bar? I will add 8m Orbit to the quiver of Duotone Rebels for kiteloop progression and I am wondering if I will benefit a lot by buying additional North bar. I know that North uses low V split and Duotone Trust bar has high Y (although is fairly low). Will the Orbit fly like crap or just fine?

It should work being a smaller kite. I thought the duotone bars had adjustable y split that you could adjust it down to a low v.

No issue flying Trust bar with the Orbit. North bars ship with split lines so you can fly the kite on 12m lines once you remove the top 10m sections. This creates a much more aggressive V than you get with the high Y of the Trust bar. You will need pigtail adapters though, unless the Trust bar comes with them which I think not.

Only Click bar has an adjustable split point, the Trust bar is fixed.
