I've only just tried a few "modern" twin tips recently and have been a bit dismayed to discover they all seem to have tiny stances. I've been riding a 138x40 Hadlow Freestyle board, which is now a classic, for the past decade. The stance on this board measured between the inner inserts is 510mm. Other boards I've been trying seem to be around 430mm between the inner inserts.
I've noticed wakeboards have even smaller stances presumably to help spin faster on the spin-to-win style tricks and because knees won't bend to fit a wide stance in boots.
My stance was pretty much set in concrete in the 90s when snowboard stances went fat. I find it much easier to stick landings with a wide stance.
How can I adapt a kiteboard to widen the stance? I was going to try and make some plates with threaded studs so I can screw these into the inserts and have the studs sticking up at the right stance but it will be hard to keep these low profile. I could pad the base of the footpads out though.
Drilling new inserts into the base of the board seems drastic and there won't be the usual ABS reinforcement there.
The Duotone boards have the channels in them... Anyone know the maximum stance width achievable on a Duotone Hadlow board?
Anyone else 180cm or over find board stances ridiculously small?

I would add a few inserts. Inserts are pretty cheap about 25 cents per. If you don't know how to drill it out, place the insert and set it, shouldn't be too hard to hire someone to do it for you. A snowboard repair shop can do this sort of modification. They use the same inserts as we do (they are m6) and do this sort of repair fairly often because snowboard inserts can fail. Plates might work too, but adding inserts isn't too hard.

I am 193 cms
I ride RRD Stlye Biax v2 (139x42) on the wider stance. I felt it perfect.
Then I started to ride Race Foil (Levitaz Raze). I use that board on the widest stance which is something like ~20 cms wider than my twintip.
When I changed back to twintip I felt that the stance was so small. But after 2-3 sessions I forgot about it. So I guess this is only a matter of habit.
I tried a Duotone Jamie SLS 2021 (139). It has channels and I set them up as below:
The most convenient setup should have been to put it on the widest setup but then the surface area from my straps to the tail was too small. I think that is necessary for hard landings to absorb the power with the board instead of your kneed. So I put the straps a little closer to each other and it felt perfect as well. It is just a matter of habit.

I am 170cm, I started kitesurf 2020, I had a TT 142x45 and the smaller inner stance was 53cm(yes 53cm)..when I tried smaller TT like 138x42 and 135x42 I felt I couldn'rt control at first when inner stance 43cm..but this 43cm now is pefect for me, because I made my ride stance bettet.
I tried a lightwind TT 148x45 last month...43cm or 46cm I found a lit bit annoying to control the board, I put in 51cm and it was muuuch better for control. What I found(google search) is that the distance from outer hole to tail must be around 28cm-30cm.. and this works for me...just think about it
Oh and Merry Christmas and a Happy Ney Year 2022

I think you hit the nail on the head here... A key dimension is from your foot to the tip of the board as this defines the working tip and how much it will flex.

Cool.
At 198cm I share the frustration. I don't think about it that much any more, but I would definitely have liked to test a wider stand (funnily enough the "pro shop" that sold me my first board didn't even move the pads for me - after I had taken courses at that same place and they obviously knew I was clueless).

I think Stance is really overlooked by riders, schools and brands... If you think about the variation in rider height / leg length, there should be a corresponding variation in stance widths. The T-Slot method seems best IMO.
I remember seeing someone that was 200cm riding an old Nobile 555 with a tiny stance... they didn't land much!
