linemount - possible with every cam?

Postby wavy navy » Tue Feb 22, 2022 5:24 pm

Hi, right now I use an old gopro with a linemount. I´d like to upgrade to some of these fancy new action cams, but it seems that there are no linemounts available for these?

For example I don´t find a linemount for the insta 360 on the internet?

I have this old linemount. But does it fit for example to the gopro 10? I don´t need to keep this old one, but I didn´t find new ones on the internet...

Thanks!

there are at least 50 line mount manufacturers. dozens of universal mounts which will fit your cam. I like the specific ones for the particular model better because they are less prone to snags. My favorite is the one that SaulOhio makes (by far the cam which snags lines the least), unfortunately he doesn't make a model for the insta.

The camrig line mount is compatible with a gopro 10.

why not just adjust to shape to whatever new camera's dimentions are while using some existing model in tinkercad?
I modified one of the existing ones and printed for myself a few years back
https://www.tinkercad.com/things/cjad6G ... e-mount-v2
this is how it looked in real life and some shots with it..

Agree, there are a huge number of mounts out there :thumb:

But I would not go for one that fits all, as it will be heavier and clumsier.

Find one that works for your cam, when you get a camera.

I have GoPro Hero 6 and 8 and MAX, and got many mounts for these.

Some can be used for all 3, others (better ones usually) specific for one or two of them.

The original linemount you show in your post wavy navy, is not a good one IMO, ancient in many ways.

Beware though, that some linemounts can break at the attachment, so always use a safety camera leash :naughty:

This is a mount I designed a couple of years ago for the GoPro Max:

A few sequences are shot with that mount in this video:

The problem is that 99.99% of these mounts are made for GoPro cameras only. Try to find a specific mount for Insta360 OneX or X2 and you'll understand the original question.

I have OneX and X2 and had developed a mount for the X1, including the Venture case since the camera is not waterproof. It hides the lines because the mount is aligned with them. The mount is fixed in place with screw caps on one side while the safety line runs freely on the other side.

Here it is https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4560318

But it will not solve the problem as the OneX was replaced by X2 (which has exactly the same video resolutions btw...). I will probably design something for the OneX2 but I should confess that I'm not a big fan of cameras mounted on lines as I'm usually riding hydrofoil in marginal winds and any weight on the lines would sacrifice the kite's work :(

I have this mount and it can't be used with OneX2 and if you use it with GoPro Max (not sure if it's possible due to the camera dimensions), the mount position is completely awkward with a 360 camera. However, this mount is great for Hero10 and other traditional action cams.

EDIT: just checked here and, as you can see, it can be used with the OneX2 but, as I've said before, the camera would not be mounted in the best alignment.
