Naish Torque 2 + i3 Bar Chicken Loop Weak Bungee

Postby taiguy » Tue Mar 08, 2022 1:46 am

I have one of the new Torque 2 i3 Bars which I believe share a quick release system with the ocean rodeo bar (and others). On my first day out with it, I had an accidental release in deep water. I managed to get my shit in order and back to shore, then took a closer look at the system. It seems like the bungee holding the quick release in place is pretty weak. So weak that once you insert the chicken loop it doesn't close on it's own.

Has anyone else seen this or is my bar an anomaly?

-EDIT-

Naish customer service got back to me super quick and are having me send my bar in so the design team can figure out why it's behaving like this. Will update with findings later.

- UPDATE -

Replacement bar chicken loops has a much more solid reset behavior

Just out of curiosity, have you tied pushing the red QR down before setting the chicken loop?

Yes you have to push the red QR down to secure it.

You can't physically push the red QR piece down before the chicken loop is inserted. I think that's by design.

Is that an anomaly? Can you just push it down once it is inserted? Are you sure that is not by design?

Need a new bar for pivots. Debating whether to go the torque or stick with cabrinha bars which I really like and had no issues.

Bars from other manufacturers that have the seat belt style reset, from what I remember, had a loud positive clunk as it reset. This is another effect of having a weak bungee pull. The more annoying problem is accidental QR activation.

Maybe something is obstructing because it shouldn't be like that.

Can anyone tell me if there is another brand how has a freestyle chicken loop that would fit to the NAISH bar. I think it’s a total disaster to release a bar, meant for a freestyle kite, and doing this little loop.

From what I understand Naish is also coming up with modular bar which will have three different loops: small big and a slider. The small loop is actually good if you want to use hook or a slider ring and for shorter arm length.
