I am interested in trying a waist harness with a higher profile than the ride engine to provide some support in the midback area to reduce hyper lordosis when riding. The ion apex curv 13 looks interesting and taller. Does anyone have this harness? How stiff is it really?

I had both a Ride Engine Prime (probably 2018 model) and the the Ion Riot Curv 14 (the number corresponds with stiffness). The Ride Engine was slightly stiffer. I preferred the fit of the Ion - it held down better than the RE. It was also a lot lighter. I think the RE designs have improved a lot since the version I had though.

Ok cool I am mainly looking at the apex because of the larger footprint on the back. I have the 2019 ride engine

Ok to add some info, I bought the harness. Haven't had a chance to try it. It's a bit lighter, the back plate is almost as stiff but the sides are a bit more flexible. Really nice locking spreader bar and the spreader bar is much wider than on my 2019 ride engine. From trying it at home I think it will support my back better with a larger footprint. Can add more info after trying.

Fit will determine which harness is best for you. The Ion Apex 13 is a good choice for added surface area (taller back panel), but if it doesn't fit, it's pointless.
Dakine's Pyro, Prolimit's Hawk , and Naish's Arsenal harnesses are some other possible options. Try them all if you can.

Yep, I had to order it no shops around. From trying on at home the fit feels really nice but I need to try it on the water to really know

Did you try the harness. What's the verdict? Does the extra height of back panel offer better support

Hi, I only tried it once (not much wind at the moment). It's comfortable and lighter and sits a bit higher in the back. It restricts movement in the midback a bit more which I think will be beneficial in my case. I feel inspired to use it the next time again, but ultimately more tests needed. It's slightly softer than the ride engine but I don't think it makes a hugge difference in support flex wisw

After another 2 powered session I am gonna keep using the apex. My back has felt better with it. Only downside is been getting some lower rib pinch but it can be sorted with positioning and proper tension in the webbing
