Ozone control bar repair

Postby RagingGrandpa » Fri May 06, 2022 9:02 pm

Seeking advice... my 2018 Contact bar has a loose end-cap which rotates just a little bit, irritating while riding.

I don't see an exposed rivet and the overmold is stiff and difficult to move out of the way...

Anyone know how these are assembled, or ideas about how to disassemble and re-bond?

TIA

They are glued on, if it's moving the contact adhesive has debonded. Pull outwards and wiggle and it should pull off the bar, trim the old glue off and clean, apply a contact adhesive and push back on, you could try any decent marine contact glue. The red/blue rope pass through a drilled hole in the bar.

Some googling turned up this image for Contact Bar V4... if that steel crosspiece is under there, I don't see a way to remove the cover without cutting it?

could you push the metal cross piece through the bar using your thumbs, then slide the ends off ? I would be surprised if they moulded the rubber part over it during manufacturing.

You were right! :)

And thank god ozone used a pull-tab on the connection rope stopper knot... would be nearly impossible to extract it otherwise.

The stainless insert is knurled, but the aluminum tube fit is rather loose on the pin.
So to secure it tightly, I dumped 1oz of JB Weld in there and reassembled. Hope it's durable; after potting in epoxy, future disassembly would be quite destructive.
