I would assume they fly further than that rock?
100% doesn’t mean a comp area with rocks in it is a good idea though

You can see them very clearly in the takeoff area which is also hazard if they get the load and pop wrong

Plus there are rocks further out which are supposed to be in deep water but clearly not capable of causing damage in his legs must’ve hit something to snap them that badly especially if he kicked his board away

Can’t understand why he deleted that crash video.
I remember watching Ruben's crash when the chickenloop opened up mid-loop. For me that had to be one of the biggest anti-promo's out there in terms of gear. I have loads of respect for Ruben and his impact on the sport, but that shit simply is not allowed to happen with new gear. I'll take my lickings when they are due, but no need to turn that fire into a potential flamethrower.

Didn't know about the rock in the water there and yes....if you know it is there then it is a little harder to ignore the lack of proper judgment. He too has mad skills and expanding the sport, but a few more like those and living that particular dream might not be possible.

Hope he makes a full recovery

Ok, pretty sure it was a rock! Look where he lands here…it’s pretty shallow and full of little rocks

Latest update. He shows on the map where the rock is.
So in this case the best thing he did was not to land on the butt !

But surely if there is a comp there again, the rock has to be marked, so the riders know where it is…and have the comp at high tide.

Lasters Update. !

This is a classic case of amateur/cowboy vs. professional.
Why not remove the identified hazard reducing that particular risk to zero if this is the spot that "must" be used?
If cost is the question, I wonder how much in the short and long term of this injury and potentially others will be?

"Professionally" event organisers should be liable, but is there a disclaimer for just such an occasion that makes both parties irresponsible?

Fkin cowboys!

The comp area needs to be safe. They should put out 2 buoys to limit the area, to make sure if you land in the area there are not obstacles.

But, the riders also need to look out for themselves in their own interest…if there are rocks, they should tell the organizer who has to take according steps to keep it safe.

Let’s hope this accident gets awareness in the mind of the tours and organizers.

And we all can be happy, that Janek only broke his leg and ankle, and nothing worse. We gonna see him back on the water and that will be a great day for our sport!

Yeah. I understand they aren’t doing it on purpose, but if you arrange something like that you got to make sure it is free from hazards like that. It is risky enough without rocks. What if he hits it with his back or head?

Assuming he hit something on the seabed of course.

Hopefully he will make a recovery. I am not a medical expert but I would not be surprised if this was not a career ending injury.
