In his recent story is a clip of the crash. That looks so gnarly. Little mistake and boom, no legs ... crazy.

Was it really a mistake? Looks more like a lull to me? Kite didn´t go up again and didn´t catch him. Or maybe he steered too far and didn´t depower enough. Would be interesting to understand what was the actual problem here.

Looks like a bit more serious than the usual "ankle fracture" commonly seen in kiters.
He has two external fixators, which you usually only put in if you cannot do an internal fixation with plates or screws immediately, which means the bones are probably in many fragments, likely calcaneus and/ or talus (main bones of the foot) involved.. This does not look good, its a BIG injury!

This shows how important it is to know how to crash.

When you feel you gonna crash (and you do) then limit the force that your legs will get…this means you need to lift up your legs, and crash more with your butt.

This helped me so far to not get injured. When I did kiteloops back then (not mega) I crashed many times, because back then a 12 was slow…I always made sure to not land with force on my legs.

Wishing Janek a speedy recovery 🍀

Good plan Toby…although not sure those rules apply to Janek’s crashes…

Loved his joke "rate my hair".

Yeah. A bit surprising that he landed that with his feet first, but who am I to say of course.

Hopefully he recovers well and it doesn't cause any longer term mental "blocks" when it comes to jumping.

Look at the moment of the crash. Looks like he still tried to land it. If you feel it goes wrong, don’t try it, lift your legs. He would have hit more with the side of his body. A broken rib is always better than the knees or ankle…

When he is inverted during the 2nd rotation the kite gets steared more towards the right instead of to 12, that was what I was seeing as a mistake maybe. Before impact he gets pulled again from the kite but I can't say if he would've been caught, might've been enough to have a softer crash and getting rid of the board.

It looks like during that 2nd rotation, when he is upside down is when it went to hell. No idea how you ditch the board there when you realise in less than 1 second that you are about to eat it during free fall.
