Sri Lanka's economic crisis affecting kite production ?

Postby GregK » Wed May 18, 2022 5:35 am

Wonder if anyone has any news on how the situation ( economic turmoil ) in Sri Lanka is affecting the kite brands manufactured there. I know Duotone kites and windsurfing sails are made at Global Sports Lanka, and I'm pretty sure Core kites are made either at GSL or maybe the Ezzy Sails factory in Sri Lanka.

Northern hemisphere's production is likely all done and either at the shops or distributors, would expect any manufacturing problems would affect southern hemisphere's summer orders.

Any insiders have some news ?

Core/Eleveight/North etc are all made in Aqua Dynamics. In the past (maybe still) also some part of Duotone was produced there.

There is a 10 hour power cut down per 24 hours in Sri Lanka but the factories have generators. In fact GSL is running double shifts so I believe 14 hours a day.....no issue there it seems. (later edit, by now also fuell is an issue so guess double shifts to work around power cuts)
The only victims are the people in Sri Lanka, huge inflations, corrupt gevernment. I hope (since kites are paid in USD/Euro) the workers of those factories get the equivalent of of the actual USD/LKR rates to soften their pain but this I dont know. I just know the owner of AD is a good person as far as I can judge with heart also for people. Go there to at least stimulate their economics a bit if you have a chance.
