Tom Bridge brought the idea that you do 'runs' - like with most other judged sports. Take wakeboarding - you don't just score off a single trick but need to put a series of tricks together. You get this in the wakeboarding videos too. Same with park BMX and skateboarding.

The 'Game of KITE' idea that seems to be in vogue with judging panels is a relatively amateur format more akin to effort sports like athletics than technical sports which is odd really. I guess that the organisers don't want to lay down a defined run pattern like you get in boat wakeboarding as the inconsistencies in the wind would be unfair if you hit a gust or lull mid run?

A competition based on 'runs' sounds interesting for sure and the concept of judging such runs based on technicality, fluidity etc also seems doable.
At the moment its all about that 1 jump (5 or 6 different times) and such an approach wouldn't seem possible if tricks follow in short succession. It would feel closer to a wakeboarding comp and maybe there is sponsor interest there or maybe not.

And such a comp would be totally different to KOTA or any other big jump event.

Whatever the outcome....hope to see more videos like Tom's in the near future as I'm starting to get dizzy looking at mega loops

In a wave/high chop area give each contender 7 minutes to display tricks while only being able to go a certain amount downwind have each contender get scored based on 3 times going from the start point with the score being decided by the display each tack, combined.
Would make a sick competition, imagine combining 3-4 tricks in the shorebreak area instead of 1 boost.
The skills needed would be not just landing a trick but continuing after it with knowledge of the wave, luck of the gusts and the limited distance until you went too much downwind or exited the shorebreak point

That was more a critique of the GKA freestyle format than big air. Plenty of riders have shown that its possible to string together a series of tricks (I think Noe Font had some stuff like this in his most recent video)- it just doesn't fit into the 'Kite Low' fashion at the moment (which is not a bad thing because it makes it easier to get inverted during the trick and that looks cool). I'm trying to work out if there is a scoring system that allows you to judge a series of simpler tricks chained together in succession against a really difficult single trick and still make it fair and competitive? Like 100% of the first + 50% of the second + 30% of the third and so on?

KOTA picked a good format by putting 70% on height for a while. This kind of ties into maximum effort sports. The problem is that the equipment isn't standard across the fleet so you have an arms race between manufacturers to claim brand visibility. I like the BAKL biggest boost of the day format. That allows the height spectacle to coexist with the technicality. It would be good if they could do a round by round award so that there was incentive for riders to pull at least one big boost per heat but for a relatively new league there's not going to be the money to do that. Its good too that they are awarding points for tricks on both tacks too in the variety score.

They had it in KOTA for 2020. Marc Jacobs won it with a 22m. Last year they did "Move of the day" that Liam won for a front roll board off.

Ask and you shall receive, a competition decided by the people!

Idiotic popularity contest, but if it keeps people from their idiotic opinions during actual comps, awesome.

If Bill Gates isn't deciding it is just idiotic.

That competition is different. Not that I mind it (or care for that matter).
