Lieuwe shotgun beginner

Postby Emic » Mon May 30, 2022 2:49 pm

I am an advanced beginner 70 kg. Looking to get the lieuwe shotgun 136 vs duotone select textreme 135. A little weary about the shotgun as it is marketed for intermediate/pro kiter. Anyone has tried both? Pros negatives for someone progressing slowly.
Thanks

I certainly wouldn't let that description hold me back ! Advanced beginner/intermediate, it's all subjective. I've owned many boards and I can't really think of any that I would describe as obviously unsuitable for advanced beginners (apart from dimensions). But. I haven't owned either of the boards you have mentioned. I'm sure others will chip in with more concrete information/pro's and cons.

Shotgun is a smooth ride for any level of rider, it is quite stiff but the rocker and channels make it quite forgiving. Go for it.

Lieuwe recommends 133 for my weight but I’m thinking 136 will allow faster progression

I'm 80kg. I had Select Textreme 135, then tried a Shotgun 136 x 40.5. Kept the Shotgun and sold the Select Textreme.

It's knee friendly and eats chop. For the size for you send Lieuwe an email describing where you'll use the board, the sea and wind conditions, your kites, and you'll get quality advice.

Do you think there’s a difference in the ability to progress with one board vs the other? The select is marketed for “ easy progression” but I haven’t tried either one

Don’t put to much value on the board.
Sure they will ride/feel a bit different but similarish sized boards are not going to make a significant difference for your progression in the grand scheme of things (regardless of what marketing bla might tell you).

I would personally try to demo or loan a board on the beach and see what feels best. Some people like X while others like Y. Doesn’t mean one is better then the other.

Yeah board is the least of your worries regarding progression. Sure it helps but will not be your limiting factor quick. If I were you and if you are not too tall I would go for smaller 133 board gives your more maneuverability and will allow you to handle more winds when you progress.
