Do you put pig tails on your line ends and bridle ends?

Postby artificialname » Tue Jun 14, 2022 12:49 am

Do you put pig tails on your line ends and bridle ends?

So you're connecting pigtail to pigtail?

Or just a pig tail on the ends of your lines, so that you're connecting the line-end-pig-tail directly to the "raw" bridle end?

Pigtails to pigtails usually. If line ends are sleeved they can be used without pigtails

Most of the time the pigtails are on the end of the lines to prevent wear on the lines (95% of kites) . But sometimes you can put pigtails on the kite. For example some kites use loop on the back lines while the majority of kites use loops on the front lines and knots on the back line. I had a 7M like that and all my bars were setup for knots on the back line so I just left the pigtails on the kite to convert it into the regular setup therefore I could use normal bars with it.

Yup, much easier and cheaper to just replace pigtails. Also, if you borrow/lend gear it makes swapping much easier.

I have never seen this?

Would say that the pigtails are on the kites almost always, for the rear lines or the front lines.

And the flying lines meaning frontlines and rearlines are sleeved with loops and knot (not knots)

I prefer this, as then I just adjust my pigtails on the kite to fit this very kite, and I never have to worry about which pigtail to use, always the outer knot (or even better, just have ONE knot only)

So the trim on one bar (actually all my bars) fits all my kites around default depower :thumb:

If you had the pigtails on the flying lines, it would not work, and you have to adjust/remember which knot to use for each of your kites when attaching

Since we have such different views on what is used, it might be very brand specific in different areas?

ideal pigtails are dual ends and not sleeved but stiff 3mm dyneema, any kite will fit on to dual ends, no sleeve to wear out, the sleeves are too easily worn away, revealing the very thin inner core of raw kite line,
all pigtails should be dual ended, and of course colour coded.
3mm armour coated Dyneema has a breaking load of around 980kg, makes a good size end knot and a very good larks head loop that's easy to loosen off.
i make these dual ended pigtails and sell them to many of our guys, but i still say that the standard click bar ones that are sleeved are superb, but do wear out the sleeve eventually, i was shocked to go on line to check the price of the click bar pigtails, sold in singles at £11 each made me think mine were way too cheap.

The only pigtail you will ever need:

They are Universal, put these on the end of you lines and you can fly any kite you want.
