2022 Ion B2 Harness boardshorts

Postby keegster17 » Tue Aug 02, 2022 4:48 pm

Anyone get the new Ion 2022 B2 Boardshorts harness? I don't see a fixed point to attach a safety leash, but the picture shows one like the Mystic Adaptive Leash eye, not that I can't come up with something but bit of a pain. I don't like attaching to hand rope on the back.

apparently, according from Ion, they are many options for attachment, so they don't supply, kind of a bummer.

I simply attached it on the front. So many places to place your leash. Can't see your problem.

Thanks Ben, not a problem, just was curious if the shorts should have come with the adaptive eye leash or not.

These board shorts have a serious design flaw IMO. Mine just split open and my friends did the same exact thing after about 2 years of use, maybe 59 sessions, I have several harnesses.
It appears where the webbing is connected on sides it relies on the board shorts for strength instead of continuing a stronger webbing material all around your body.
The shorts I would think would be strictly cosmetic and play little to no role in the actual strength of the harness. Once this side tear/blowout happens the shorts are no longer safe or comfortable to ride.

That sounds about average lifespan for B2. Owned Naish Targa, Dakine Nitrous and Ion B2 and all of them ripped, B2 was actually the strongest. It became a standard procedure for me to reinforce all load bearing seams with 2inch nylon tape held in place by a ton of stainless rivets. Then they last a really long time. I am on Prolimit Kite pro harness now and loving it (see my review in this forum), will not go back to harness boardshorts (and I have a back suffering from 30 years of kite/windsurfing)
