WOO 3.0 battery issue

Postby bizzarizzo » Tue Aug 09, 2022 5:24 pm

Hi fellow kiters and WOO users.

Does anyone else notice how poor the battery is on WOO 3.0?

I’ve been using woo2.0 and the battery can easily hold over a month with multiple sessions and hundreds of jumps recorded.

Decided to upgrade to 3.0 and to my surprise the battery is completely crap in the woo3.0.

For example I’ve charged it, upgraded firmware and it was sitting turned off at home for a week. And when I checked it’s at 22% battery. I have not used it all.

I have reached out to WOO and after many mails they sent me a replacement which is exactly as crap as the first one.

Does anyone else see this huge downgrade with battery life on 3.0?

I cannot find anything online about this issue, and wondering if it’s a common issue (maybe some botched firmware) or am I really that unlucky to have 2 equally bad woo3.0?

Thanks!

I have an older Woo3, maybe 3 years old or so now. Battery not as good as it used to be, but will still last at least six hours or so on the water, based on the admittedly sketchy charge indicator. It has been on multiple trips to Cape Town, Brazil, and my local, and it has never died during a session in a given day, but I do take care to charge it in the morning before my first session. I have a few 4 hour downwinders on record, and it lasted through those.

When new, it felt like I could literally get 20+ hours from it, but I have never needed that. So yes, the battery has degraded, and if you are doing 5+ hours a day without charging it then maybe you may have trouble.

I usually kite around 2-3 hrs, and then charge when i get home battery generally is at 60% for 2hrs and 43% for 3hrs, i've done a couple of staggered 4hr sessions where i've had a break then started again, battery was at 33% after that session.

I charge my Woo after each session/day and I have not had an issue with battery life. Many hundreds of sessions now. I did some 4hr plus sessions recently and the Woo still had battery left. The other observation is to check that the orange charge light flashes when you go to charge to ensure it is actually charging. If it is not just clean off the scale build up on the charge points on the Woo by scratching the copper with a drawing pin or similar.

Saw a guy on woo not too long ago who uploaded an 8 hour and some minutes long session. Apparently the guy was trying to kite until the woo battery runs out of juice. Seems fine to me for battery life.

Interesting is your Woo3 has a bad battery life right out of the box, mine has that now too, but after more than 200 sessions.
i could use it for many sessions but now i have to charge it after each session, it is only 25% of what it was when i got it new.

Yes, since the latest software update within a 1hour session I lose about 30-40% battery with the WOO 3.0.
Not good!
