just out of curiocity, what would be the reason for filtering out people on surfboards or hydrofoils?
competitive advantage?
why leave them for distance disciplines? most would agree that race hydrofoil would beat TT in 99% of conditions when going for speed/distance.
Race foils got beaten in the recent speed comp that was run on woo
noone doubts that.. foils, in current wing designs, become iffy at high speeds..
however woo competition is about distance...
foils can slice through chop and you can sit and chill on a long tack, maybe even sipping a beverage..
try riding a TT or special race board in less than perfect conditions for 10,20,30 mi :-)

Woo comp was about 500m average speed

No one is riding 10 20 30 miles on one tack at full speed, foil or no foil

Look at the original post..
it lists the disciplines..
there is distance in 1 hour and team total distance..
nothing about speed.

The remark about speed was in response to you.

A comp was run on Woo just prior to the woo worlds to win a kite for the fastest 500m average.

It was won by a directional not a foil

That’s all it was about.
