Slingshot releases Code V1

Postby RayLeon » Thu Aug 25, 2022 8:41 am

Hello,

Slingshot has released a new 3 struts do-it-all kite to the market and I am very curious about this one.

https://slingshotsports.com/products/code-v1-kite

-Has anybody had a chance to try it?
-How would it compare to other popular 3 struts like the North Reach or Ozone Enduro?
-How are slingshot kites overall? any slingshot kite owner out there who can give an opinion?

Cheers!

I must have traveled in time, that's an original 2010-2013 Ozone C4 Hybrid C kite... 3kg for 10m and almost 2 grand. Hard pass, Slingshot lol.

Not sure why you would compare it to a C4, maybe I am missing something ?
The Code V1 has very swept back wing tips while the C4 is pretty much squared off so just by looking at them you know they will be very different kites.

Regarding the weight: similar to an Evo.
Probably on the heavy side of things but also not super far off most other brands excluding the special material variants.
It looks like that weight went at least partly into extra sturdiness e.g. based on the pics it has plenty of bumpers to withstand e.g. drag-launches.

Regarding the kite itself: probably in the same ballpark as all other do-all kites.
Sure there are marginal differences but I would look at pricing rather then be worried about differences in performance...

Ok then, more like 2015 Ozone Catalyst then?

Look all I am saying is they are recycling someone else's work. Expensive copies of old gear.

Ok, and why is this different from any other brand?
With the same materials, probably same cad programs, same cost restrictions and same factories what did you expect? It is bound to happen that all brands will gravitate to very similar designs.

Seems silly to single out one brand about this…

Slingshot just released kite name is Code, North just released kite name is Code Zero:) lack of fantazy or some leak :)? In general ridiculous names.

it is a bit funny they advertise how panel count is "reduced drastically" under the caption "Clean canopy". In reality wide panels can't folllow the arc of LE as well as narrower ones. Having less panels don't make kite better but cheaper to produce.

Cabrinha has used double amount of panels near LE and Bandits have always had high panel count and also high count of LE segments. Switch used to have completely smooth and round LE and they didn't spoil it by using too few panels

Cabrinha had picked up the CODE kite name, but it was changed to MOTO last minute. Probably because Ozone was just about to launch the CODE V1 twintip.
Last year Cabrinha launched the CODE wing board.

Any other CODEs out there?

Is it possible this "Code" name is a nod to Cody's kite?

"So what did Cody actually do with most of his kites? Did he fly them in the park to amuse his grandchildren? Well, no. He was mainly interested in man-lifting and multiple-kite systems."
