Heading to Sicily next week - have a tight connection between Rome/ Catania - thinking of not bringing kites ( no check on bag) and just renting.. Does anyone have any experience w renting in Sicily? Some places say I need a license.. Been kiting 15 years.. do I really need this kite license that Ive seen on some websites? Any launches better than others, South vs West? Thank you in advance

if you go to the Stagnone (flat water lagoon), there are plenty of options. no kite license needed they interview you and rent you what you need.
Puzziteddu (open sea spot - also good for waves), there is a school that rents gear as well. very friendly people.
I'm not familiar with the rest of the region but, usually, Sicilian people are very friendly and I'm sure that if there is a school you'll also find kites to rent.

Of all the kite beaches I've seen that say they "require a license", including in Italy, none of them have actually checked for a license.

Lago di Garda. The only place in Italy where they not only check your license you also need medical approval!
