Woo missing jumps

Postby nayone22 » Mon Oct 31, 2022 3:52 pm

So couple of sessions recently the Woo 3 with 100+ sessions on it has started a bit too much.. so much so I thought that it was displaying in feet rather than meters at first and first 5 jumps were logged really a lot higher that that were.
Then couple of massive jumps not registered at all?

Time for a new unit?

I have a 3.0 unit with about 200 sessions, a few years old now. Not noticed that behavior yet, will report back if something quirky happens. Just the normal charging contact corrosion.

Did you kook the landing on the big jumps? I had a good one but with a solid butt check and it didn't record. Having 2 woo on the board is the play if you are really serious about not missing a couple jumps.

Are you using a smartphone with the app? I get this quite often, but it's usually when I've not timed the jump properly, for example if it's a long downwind jump then woo doesn't seem to capture those.

So just use the garmin app so shows on my watch after each jump.
Might have been the long downwind part was a very arched jump

I haven't had good success with the garmin app. Mine seems to go out of range of the sensor quite frequently. The woo will often record a jump but it won't flag on the watch. This has gotten a lot worse since I stopped woosting as that kept the sensor closer to the watch. Means I need to do grabs and board offs on my big jumps if I want to see the results after I land which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Seems to me also that « double stage » jumps are not recorded by my Woo.
Those kind of jump when you get hit by a gust before or at the apex, that makes you go higher than the initial launch would have permitted.

With regards to Garmin if your board goes under water on landing or shortly after your jump won't display on the watch as Bluetooth doesn't work underwater, it will record on device

I also use woo with apple watch and in about over 70 sessions I noticed that it has problems registering if you:

1.) Butcher the landing, board hits the water and you crash (60% of the time it doesn't record)
2.) You land and you have very little to no board speed, and cannot pick up board speed in about 1-1.5 seconds (80% of the time it doesn't record)

So if I did a massive jump and I really want to have it register, I found myself downlooping at the very last moment or doing a super hard/fast dive so that I have some kind of board speed just after I land.

Also, I had random 7 meter jumps with more than 8 seconds hangtime pop up on Woo after I cruise some chop and hit a wave neck or something, which was super weird but happened only 2-3 times in thousands of jumps, so it's okay.

I found, Woo will miss a lot of "soft" jumps, using Foil Kites. It likes "loaded" jumps with a lot of pressure. I thelps, wenn I "smash" the board onto the water when landing. Bu those "flying" jumps with soft/fast landing are never registered for me. Works better with LEI style jumping.
