Wish you a good time in Cape Town. I am near Knysna now. Best day from the Windguru forecast is monday, but only up to 11 knots. Do you know if there are any additional thermical or local effects in Knysna that might give some more wind?

Thanks Chriz, sorry I don't know much about Knysna, only kited there once.

A good day here, did my usual Kite Beach to Holbaai downwinder on 9m Pivot and Twintip, starting around 1 and ending at 3. Lots of nice floaty jumps, although the relatively short wave period was problematic. Met a German guy with long blonde hair, I think "Swen", riding 7m and Duotone strapped directional, who also caught the bus back, but just to Big Bay. I should be wise and just do that segment too, but I like the variety from Kite Beach on. Tomorrow should have better swell.

Pretty good day all round. Lots of kites out early as the wind blew hard in the morning. I waited till noon and rode 7m and TT at Dolphin Beach, but it was not quite enough kite and lots of others around, so instead got my strapped surfboard out of the car and headed off downwind. Much better, with some really big swell in the crescent shapes north of Big Bay. It was a blast. And back at Dolphin thanks to a local kiting couple who gave me a ride (thanks Curry!), I decided to give 9m and TT a go and was doing just great with big lofty jumps when the wind notched up too much for me and I had to quit. Tomorrow looks similar and maybe even Tuesday will work, if so I will be very tired.

There has been only light SW breeze for a few days, so I have taken time for other things, like making videos of my sail across the South Pacific last year. Meanwhile these guys had fun here in December, pretty good intro to the major kite spots.

The SEaster came back today after six days of westerlies, and everyone was out having fun. I rode 9m Pivot and TT in place at Dolphin Beach, getting some good jumps, but the wave period was short so it was hard to get good speed up, and it was crowded so hard to find space to jump. Looked for dracop later at Mystic house, but there were so many kites out it was impossible to find him. Tomorrow is westerly, and a cold rainy front with NW on Tuesday, then lots of SEasterly, we hope.

My daughter has been in Cape Town for a couple of months, teaching kitesurfing. She, and the other instructors, are getting desperate as the wind has been so unreliable this season that they are not getting many lessons in - no shortage of students, but shortage of viable days.

Yeah - been a fickle season this year - next few days looking better:

Should be wind for the next week to make up for the past week. I'm not sure it is really that much different from other years. We always get breaks of a few days of westerlies, although six in a row is a lot and I can understand the problems for instructors (and folks who are here for only a week or two). For me it is a chance to recuperate, and the next seven days in a row is going to be brutal. Dracop will be happy, he's a big strong young guy who needs high winds!
