Kiter death in Cape Town

Postby decay » Fri Dec 30, 2022 9:28 am

Hi Guys,

A Dutch rider had an accident kiting in Muizenberg, Cape Town last evening and has died of his injuries.

Conditions were strong 9m winds, direct onshore.

There are some reports going around on what happened, but nothing I can confirm.

Stay safe out there my friends.

Sorry to hear, my condolences.

If you have more details to what happened, pls share.

Looks like 22 knots average? Not that strong I would say.

Just had a bridle twisted myself at launch. luckily not strong wind and a big kite which is slow…but happens so fast if wind is stronger and a smaller kite…so always be aware and ready to release…

That is just sad ; a guy looses his life because he wanted
to have some fun in what appear to be reasonably safe conditions ! :(

Here (Holland) we heard he ended up in the parking lot due to a strong gust of wind and made several (car?) hits, otherwise little information is known.. sounds strange with those wind statistics and a relatively small kite.

Sounds like death looping kite to me if being dragged 300-500m.

At launch? Crashed on the water ?

So sad.

Odd how little reporting (seemingly) about the incident.

Doesn’t take much to kill a man if you are unlucky in the way you hit something hard (like a car or a building).

This website contains lots of false information about this accident. They mention the name (Brad) and personal information of the victims kite buddy that day, not from the person who has died. Also details on the accident contradict from what I have heard from the family.

Let’s wait for an official statement from the family and eye witnesses and avoid rumours and fake news.
