Duotone Kite Bag Zipper issues

Has anyone found a solution on how to fix the zippers on these bags? Every Duotone kite bag failed on me after little use. Zipper splits open after closing. I know I can buy nylon laundry bag, but I would prefer to fix it if possible.

I think the new bags are ever so slightly better because it is a straight zip

Agree, I havent had a bag or anything with a zipper in contact with salt water, that havent failed eventually...

Unfortunately it is just a matter of time till it happens.

If not, you dont ride much

Problem is, there is no better alternative really.

Wish one could buy relatively low cost new kitebags, the only solution IMO.

Don’t know about Duatone, but I have zipped bags up and just cut a flap in the top. Often you can use the runner on it’s last legs to do this, may need to give it a pinch with a pair of pliers to make it work etc. Also the two part self assembly runners, needs to be a decent quality and suitable size, sold for zip repair can usually get a bag zipped but I don’t see them as a permanent solution. I just sow the zip end closed and cut a suitable flap. Personally I prefer a particular type of laundry bag and builders muck buckets.

This assumes it is the usual runner problem rather than damaged teeth!

TBH your zippers will last longer than the kites, so it all makes sense in some Duotone way....

Best kiteboarding used to make bag with a cap that folded over and was held with buckles.

Duotone makes a kite extension bag that actually can fold up into a short bag, no zippers.

Duotone actually makes two day packs without zippers that could be scaled up to kite bags

I haven’t found a kite bag with a zipper that will survive for me with salt water.

Use the duotone kite extension bahpgs, mystic sausage bag and mystic stuff bag.

Kitebags are a ~€}€{^|€ mystery. Not sure why it is so hard to make an intelligent and good one. Latest Ozone you got to be so careful for the zipper not to catch the kite. And they are much harder to pack than the older version.

Would love it if a good alternative actually exists.

The replacement bags from duotone are ok, but you have to maintain them, every now and again i wash the bag with fresh water, particularly the zip, then dry it in the sun.

There is no real solution, even if you go without zips. The key for all those bags, especially the one with zips is frequent maintenance. I wash my Duotone bags every couple of weeks, the zip in particular. I also make sure that the zip doesn't touch any salt water (Never squeeze a wet kite in there!). This will extend a bag's lifetime a lot and it will be years before you have any issue with the zips.

A lot of kiters simply don't care about their equipment and never do any sort of maintenance because "it is made for salt water and sand, isn't it?". I've seen it all; Bars that have never seen fresh water, Kites that have a salt crust, squeaking pumps, Wetsuits that deteriorate after only a year of use etc.

That said my Ozone-plastic zippers are OK. Always failed on the old bags, but the new ones look solid enough. Still don't see the point. Would make much more sense making them with a clamp with a rolltop or something.

Still got this small little "dream" to produce my own bag one day. This thread makes me thing I really should.
