2016 North Trust Bar - 5th line plan

Postby joedy » Tue Jan 17, 2023 10:51 pm

Does anyone have a North 2016 Trust bar 5th line plan diagram? I purchased a used 2016 Trust bar that has been converted to 4 lines and I'd like to change it back to 5 lines. My 2014 Trust bar has a slightly different configuration than the 2016 version.

I don't think there's a detailed one online, the only one I was able to find was showing the layout, no line length details. I was recently looking to replace the 5th line, unable to buy a replacement, so had to get one made up by sore kites in the uk.

It should be the same as the duotone trust bars with 6m split (up to 2022 as 2023 finally has a low V option) . You connect an extra front line to the small metal ring 10cm above the Y split. The red flagout front line will then act as the 5fth line.

Problem with this is that lines shrink over time, so if you install a new spare grey front line on a used bar you probably end up with two grey front lines of unequal length. So best get two new grey front lines, preferably of a better line quality and use pigtails to the back lines and 5fth to correct their lengths to match the new front lines.

Thank you for your helpful replies. In retrospect, it appears that this bar may have been the 4-line version from the original purchase.

Can you also let me know if my understanding of the parts needed are correct? I believe that I will need a front line connector pigtail, a metal ring, two new front lines and a 5th line. Am I missing any additional parts?

My other questions are best illustrated in the marked up photo. Is the plastic ball on the red safety line there as a back up in case the 5th line knot slips through the pulley sleeve?

I am not familiar with this particular bar but is the red ball a stopper for the flag line? Better to have a stopper ball than pull nots into chickenloop tunnels. Should be easy enough to check for this function. ( Seen flag stoppers like this on older bars.)

PS If it is the max flag stopper you could consider lowering it if you need less flag length for a 5th line, for improved reride prospects!

Why the metal ring and not a spliced loop?

Ah, that north version didn't came with the pigtail+metal ring for the 5fth option. Then it is best to drop the bar off at someone that can make you a pair of front lines to match the 5fth. I can do that, but am based in the Netherlands and best to have the bar here to make a matching line set unless you can do some precise measurements.

As to your questions:
Big knot is load bearing indeed and can't be moved. Other knots in the flagout line are to lengthen it so there is always slack in it (it shrinks over time and become tight, causing wear on the flagout line and where the big knot is seated)
Stopper ball is to make sure the bar stops there and not get jammed by all the knots.

Already see some damage on the grey front line near the end, don't use this bar in strong winds please.
