Does it make sense to stick an air tag type device in a big coffin-style board bag when traveling to Mexico? The flight is non-stop from Chicago to Cabo. I know it probably can't hurt but is it worth doing? Thanks for any tips or advice.

ehm.. if you're afraid of losing the board bag by yourself, maybe then. But I wouldn't bother if you think that airport people lose it. Airtag won't help much then, you will get it sooner or later. Just write your contact information to it.

I use it all the time when flying. So I can keep track of my oversized-luggage. See if it is on board and follow it on the destination airport untill it is in my hands.

We travel 3x/year, air tags in all our checked bags whatever the flight. They are part of our baggages now. 0nce you have them, just change the batteries every year.

Thanks for the replies so far. Agreed, it's nice to at least know where the bag is if something does go awry and doesn't show up with me.

I did just that. Got the 4-pack. Why not? The cost is pretty reasonable for an Apple product. And it gave me some peace of mind being able to confirm that my bags made it aboard when I had a 6 hour layover in Houston. If they do somehow get lost, it will be more than worth it. Have read multiple stories now in the news of airlines losing luggage and the owners told them where to find it thanks to an AirTag.

I use them all the time on all my bags, but truth be told, to date they add more stress than they solve. I find myself frantically updating my phone during taxiing to see if the bags made it onto the flight, but the airtags are pretty inaccurate and rarely give me any good intel in this situation. That leaves me stressing during the flight, and then frantically checking again as soon as I'm on the ground (and again, the info is generally pretty bad). On landing I've found the Airtag often doesn't register as being in the destination until its basically on the baggage claim (they need to triangulate off of devices and they don't really have this ability when they are inside the airplane or on the baggage truck). In the event that by bag was lost, I'm not really sure what good the Airtag would do for me as its all in the airlines hands.
From experience, if you have a direct flight on a reputable carrier and make it to the airport early, your bags will probably make it to your destination on time. If you have a bootleg carrier and/or connections, its a total jump ball and Airtags aren't helping you there.

I would.
So many stories of lost luggage where the airtag helped. My friend lost her passport and would never have gotten it back if it wasn't for tile. Another friend got his RV back 2 times because of tile.
