Futures fins for Duotone Wam Sls

Postby Nicfpv » Sat Jan 21, 2023 11:22 pm

Hi everybody,
I need to buy some new fins for my 2022 Duotone Wam Sls 5’9…
Did someone try to upgrade them with Futures fins? Which one?
Blackstix is too soft for kitesurfing?
I’m not looking for very stiff fins, more oriented to allround or mushy waves…
I’m also a light foot guy…

Sorry. I misread your question and thought it was about compatibility. I use the P4 fin-set w/ honeycomb. You don’t need big fins on a kitesurfing board. Size medium at most.

With my older Duotone Wam, the fin bolts won't go in all of the way. I had to drill the base of the fins slightly to get the bolts to seat. It seems Duotone are not actually 100% Futures compatible.

Yeah sure...Medium is fine..so you're using Pivot fins, interesting...thought to try as well...like this the board is more agile than with the original fins?

I know some of the duotone team riders are using Quobba fins.

https://quobbafins.com/

One nice thing is the carbon glass is very hard and homogeneous.

So sand doesn’t bother them as much and they are easier to repair.

Some of the fancier honeycomb fins won’t survive a rock hit and sand will scratch them. And that fancy carbon will sand right off.

I’ve used the generation construction one step removed from blackstix. It was fine.

I like the tech flex on the other end.

You just need to change the screws as Duotone use longer screws. Move the screws from back to a side fin the you need to buy 2x Fcs screws for the back fin.
For the other side fin you need to buy 2 x future screws.
You can get them any surf shop when you buy the fins, Quobbas come with the screws 😀

Hi, I've been using Futures blackstix for some years now, I really like it but they are not for every condition in my opinion. I am 65kg and used size small. For freestyle strapless they give you quite a nice pop but if the water is very choppy I think they are too stiff for my taste, making me loose momentum and balance before popping. On flat water and glassy waves they are great though.
Recently I switched to P6 Legacy and I cannot be happier, very versatile, great in choppy waters, great in surfing (not "bumping" on bottom turn), but still loose enough.

If you don't want anything too stiff I warmly recommend the P6, definitely skip Blackstix.

Blackstix have inside foil which you don’t want on kitesurf board.
Here’s vid of the fins I use in the 3 different Duotone boards . Futures P6 are the new version of Wct
