Naish Phoenix

Postby BillyGoatGruff » Sat Jul 01, 2023 10:40 am

I'm surprised this kite hasn't made more of an impact, not seen any in the UK and very rarely mentioned on here. Any owners on here? Looks like it gives the Ozone Edge a decent run for it's money, looks super lofty in the Naish video and good for massive old school airs & board off's. Quite fancy a go on a 9m in 35knts.

I have been using naish draft for years, and it looks like the same. Would be interesting to try is there a difference after all these years

It has a lot of lift, but turns slow, if you just want to jump high it´s ok, generally there are more playful kites.
There are a couple of clips with it in this video (the black kite)

Yeah....not much buzz around Naish kites at the moment. The new models aren't even posted by Toby as I guess maybe Naish isn't contributing on Kiteforum. I posted some new models but it's hardly noticed and disappears quickly down the topics.
Let's hope the new owners can market Naish a bit better.

Why do you care? I buy them because I like them. Not because of marketing.

The new Boxer and the new Triad have received very good reviews on GleitenTV. The Phoenix not so much, in Germany you can get it with a 60% price off. I had hoped that they would construct a modern 5-strut Big Air kite like Orbit, Nitro, Lift V3.
The current Pivot with the redesigned bridle is the best version since the kite‘s introduction.
I read somewhere that they are experimenting with new materials like everybody else. Maybe the autumn will bring some news.

I'm wondering if the high v adaptor makes it a bit faster. Anyone tried it on a 12m?
I'm going to give it a shot. It turns slow but as said you get good height.
Plus I have never had a kite that just sits in front of you during the jump so easily. Reminds me a bit of the old rhino 2 14m. Just has a ton of pull.

Can you really distinguish one brand high AR 5 strut kite from another in a blind test? Let's list some kite models of this type:
- Ozone Edge
- Duotone Rebel
- Cabrinha Velocity -> AV8 -> Nitro
- Airush Lift
- F1 Furtive
- Slingshot Machine
- Crazyfly Hyper
So, why would you expect a miracle from Naish in the area where numerous brands have more than decade experience and the design pretty much stagnated? If a vendor does want to differentiate from the crowd, then why not to reincarnate 7 strutter? Here is the marketing slogan: "Yes, we know, this kite doesn't ever turn, but it never fluffs too!"
